Alex, I'll take "How can you tell that the honeymoon over?" for $1000.
What is:

Burned alive for "not washing feet"

BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese bride burned her new husband to death after he got into bed after a drunken argument without washing his feet, state media reported on Wednesday.

"Wang and his wife, Luo, were married on February 2. The couple, however, frequently fought over trivial things while still on their honeymoon," the official Xinhua news agency quoted a local newspaper as saying.

The couple, from the central province of Hubei, had another fight on the night of March 4, "and in frustration they together drank a bottle of liquor to ease their anger."

"At about 10 p.m., Luo watched her husband get into bed without cleaning or washing his feet. In a fit of anger and intoxication, she set fire to the sheet he was sleeping in," the report said.

Nothing seems to shock me anymore, and I find that fact very sad.

1. That is very incredibly sad.
Relationships that foster anger and fighting don't end well, and then add alcohol to the mix... :(

2. wow...i'm a newly wed....
i hate to hear of that....
maybe she didn't want to be married? What are the rules for divorce in China?
Too bad she just didn't leave.

or maybe he really WAS that messy??? If my husband wasn't such a sweety, I don't think his messiness would fly!
he's like that Peanuts character Pig-pen. It's a mess everywhere he goes.
Ok, that doesn't justify it...I know...I'm just saying

5. "Drank a bottle of liquor to ease their anger."
Yes, because there's no problem that can't be made infinitely worse by the liberal application of alcohol.

6. Not many details. Could be mental illness involved, or maybe the fire wasn't completely intentional
Who knows? Our media loves to boil stories down into good versus evil caricatures they could fit on a Hallmark card, for entertainment value alone. Maybe the woman is mentally ill, maybe the man is abusive, maybe she didn't mean to set the fire but something got out of hand, maybe she's the devil incarnate, maybe something we can't think of. Hell, maybe it's an urban legend from China that our media believed was real. I can't get emotionally vested in a story when there aren't enough details to know what happened. Stories like this mostly get me angry at the media--they should either tell the whole story, or not even bother.
