My turtle scratches on the door to be let in like my cats
Edited on Sun Mar-16-08 05:26 AM by JCMach1
Seriously... Next time he does this, I am going to take video.

Basically, the guy will climb out of his cozy garden pool, walk up to the glass sliding door and start scratching. I open the kitchen door and he comes in like you would expect any pet. This is the second time it happened. After hanging out in the the kitchen for awhile (maybe 15 min of crawling around) he goes to the back door, my wife opens it and he returns to the garden!

Basically, he is one of these ... a red eared slider.

While I have had every pet imaginable, this is my first turtle. We adopted him when some neighbors moved into an apartment.

Is he looking for food or just wanting to say hello?

Good Morning! :hi:

3. That's neat!
We had a turtle kept inside, in container most of the time; he/she was definitely aware of/responsive to our movements around.

6. I've noticed in households with different types of pets
They learn behavior from each other. My sister used to have cats and then she got dogs..and the dogs all picked up the feline trait of jumping and crawling all over the furniture....

8. my cat started growing if someone comes to the door after the dog died
and started sitting on command before feeding

these are all things the dog was required to do but the cat was never trained to do. after the dog died, the cat started doing them.

19. That is really cute
What a cute and smart turtle. I used to have little pet turtles that I got at the dime store when I was a little kid. That was before they were banned from being sold. Many, many years ago. Thank you for adopting him. Sounds like he has a good home in your garden.

21. My roomate brought home a tortoise one day...
...nothing in our apartment lease said anything about tortoises, OK?

We named him Butch, and I fed him some watermelon rind...and after that, Butch would follow me around the apartment.
Those little buggers can move, lemme tellya.

Freaked my mom out when she came to visit and the tortoise came truckin' out of the kitchen...:wow:

Good boy!

26. You have animal charisma
My family have adopted squirrels and birds, not to mention the stray dogs and cats and the Racoons and rats I had out here for a while.

My neighbor puts out lettuce for a turtle. She is a kind-hearted elderly woman and gets the lettuce from her bin and gives it to the turtle who waits on her condo patio

30. raccoons and rats!
Both of those come to our back porch at night to eat what the squirrels left, and sometimes possums too :loveya: The squirrels don't know I consider them my pets :p but a couple have eaten from my hand and I've been feeding them all for 5 or 6 years so really they are my babies :loveya:
