Why is 'faux' so popular? If we use this word, does whatever
we are referring to as 'faux' become more phony, fake, untrue, less likely? Example 'faux outrage.'

1. That's a rather silly question.
Does referring to the sky as blue make it any more so? It's just a descriptor.

2. I don't think it was silly at all. How many times, when reading,
have you come upon a foreign word or phrase, and the author would put the translation in parens for the reader?

Is the author doing this to show that he/she knows phrases in other languages and we the readers are too uneducated to know the same? If the author thinks that poorly of us, why not use all English?

4. It's a word that's become common.
Plenty of foreign words become common. I'm still not seeing what the big deal is.
