Has anyone tried ordering groceries online? |
|
I see Safeway has the option now and I was going to try it.
Not having a car in this town sucks, the closet grocery type place within walking distance is Wally World (:barf:) and I'm tired of not having decent food.

1. I've been doing it for a couple of years now. |

I use an outfit called SimonDelivers, which serves Minneapolis, St. Paul and suburbs. I like it -- it saves me a lot of time and their selection is pretty good. There is a delivery charge but I figure it's worth it considering the time and gas saved. I was skeptical at first, but now I really like it -- it's nice to come home and find your groceries right there at your back door.

I have seen their delivery trucks around.
How do the prices compare to the local grocery stores?

2. Years ago I used Home Grocer before they went under and I liked them, though |
|
for some things I just had to go to the store and select my own. But I'm that way with clothes too -- it was more about me being picky than Home Grocer not doing it well.

6. I figured I'd want to do that for things like produce |
|
I'm extremely picky about produce. But that sounds good.

3. My grandma did, and she loved it. |

It was a small town, and they didn't cahrge her for it. She always gave the delivery boy hell for being "excessively tardy, young man", but she tipped well.

9. You can order just about anything on amazon. |

The things he got on a consistant basis were mostly sugar-free things that he couldn't always find at the store because he was going on a health food kick. :P He had a store right across the street from his apartment for the basic foodstuffs.

11. I order from Safeway several times a month |
|
My only complaint is that there's not as much variety online as at the store, and some prices are higher and some specials not available. They rarely screw anything up, although I did get several cans of bacon flavored Spam one day that I didn't order (and wasn't charged for).
It's very, very handy. And because we don't keep a car, it isn't much more to pay the delivery charge than to take a cab home with groceries.
