It infects the soil and there is no known cure or treatment for this. The speaker wrote a book about this history of banana companies and politics in Central and South America. He said the banana companies are going to have to go looking for new places with cheap land and cheap labor to start new banana plantations...think Africa.

rose to $.89 a pound in one of the most popular grocery stores in Seattle this week. We often go to a small market that has them for $.49 as a lure to the rest of their stuff.
