you know how you're supposed to make sure your pets have access
to plenty of clean water?

Well, I always have the water bowl filled.

There are 2 toilets to choose from.

If it's raining, there are plenty of puddles in the pen.

I have a pan in my bedroom to catch the water from the leaky roof. The water is sort of brown. Guess which the preferred source of drinking water for cats and dogs.

1. SOP
There are drinking fountains for pets. I think they are careful and want moving water, as it is less likely to be contaminated.

2. Well, this water is filtered through the roof membrane, the blown in fiberglass
and the drywall. Maybe it's the movement from the drips that attracts them!

4. The drywall adds flavor.
Maybe it is the movement, sort of makes sense.

No idea why.

7. My cats always want to drink out of my bath.

Try to keep them out of the dodgy water, there's all sorts of germy goodness in toilets, and I'm sure fiberglass isn't real hot for them either.

8. Bleck. Yeah, they probably shouldn't be drinking the roof water.

All kinds of nasty stuff may be in there, even if it tastes good to them.

My vet's assistant gave me a tip to keep my pets drinking enough water through the dry months: just add a tablespoon of tuna water (ie the water that tuna comes packed in) to the water dish. Works like a charm. Might work to lure your kids away from the roof water, too.

10. I tried "baiting" the water dish once
...One of my huskies pawed through the water in the bowl, trying to "dig" down to wherever the flavor was coming from. Water everywhere. :D

I've also found they seem to looooove drinking from the nastiest water they can find. I left a wheelbarrow out in the yard behind the house once with a bunch of leaves in it. Water rained in there, leaves started decomposing... and one afternoon the dogs found it and drank and drank and drank.

Good lord, when once came in to give me a kiss I thought he was dying, his breath was so bad. Took me two days to figure out why they sometimes smelled of death.

13. Our dogs have clean, fresh water in their bowls always, but prefer
to drink from the dishes placed under the indoor/outdoor plants or little puddles that
collect on the patio. Bothers me because i know it has fertilizer in it as well as who knows
what else. z

-Faucet in bathroom after it's turned off
-Grey water in the tub basin after a shower
-Freshly poured glass of water intended for human consumption
-Water bowl which circulates the water.

15. Apparently they prefer "running" water. Maybe the leak water tastes/smells
fresher somehow.
