What a way to go...
Drowning in a septic tank. :-(

Chippewa County man drowns trying to fix septic tank

The Associated Press

LAKE HALLIE — A man trying to do maintenance on a septic tank behind his home apparently slipped, fell head first into the opening and died from cold water drowning, the coroner said.

Chippewa County Coroner Kay Gerrits said the accident happened about noon Monday at the man’s home in the village of Lake Hallie. A plumbing snake — a device used to remove clogs in pipes — was found near the tank.

The 82-year-old man’s wife saw him fall into the tank opening.

“When she ran outside, he had sunk in deeper,” Gerrits said.

Gerrits pronounced the man dead after he was taken to a hospital.

The man’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
