Great "Closing Chords" In Rock Songs or Solos- 3 Examples...
I heard "Low Spark Of High-heeled Boys" by Traffic yesterday while on the job site and at the end of the song is that amazing chord that seems to the reason the song existed in the first place. It gave me goose-pimples this time as it did when I first heard it upon its release in 1971. I believe it was an organ solo in the last 2 minutes that builds up the melody, drops out for a few beats, then- WHAM! ... and the rhythm section slips back into the groove as the song fades... woah!

It got me to thinking if i could name any other songs that have great "closers". The only one i could come up with is the final chord in "Love Reign O'er Me" at the very end of Quadrophenia by The Who. If anyone could musically bring things to a close, whether by smashing his guitar to bits or even with a single power chord, it's Pete Townsend. With that last chord he bring the entire two-album event to a close. Finished. Done. Beautiful. Again, with the goose-pimples... woah!

The third example i can think of is the end of the guitar solo by Robert Fripp in "A Sailors Tale" on Islands by King Crimson. After the extended, intense build-up of the solo the super low bass notes of the mellotron slams down as the drums take off into the stratosphere... woah!

Can anyone think of any other examples of this? Certainly i'm missing a few if not many.

Thanks!

Cachoponous crescendo of the orchestra resolves into a majestic major chord, after which only the piano remains.
