Ivan Dixon, Kinch from Hogan's Heroes, has died.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Ivan Dixon, best known for his role as Staff Sgt. James Kinchloe on the '60s television classic, "Hogan Heroes," has died. He was 76. His daughter said Dixon died Sunday at a hospital in Charlotte after a hemorrhage and of complications from kidney failure.

In addition to acting, Dixon directed hundreds of episodes of television shows, including "The Waltons," "The Rockford Files," "Magnum, P.I." and "In the Heat of the Night."

Dixon's acting credits predate "Hogan Heroes." He was a stunt double for Sidney Poitier in the 1958 movie "The Defiant Ones." Poitier said in a statement that you had to be careful working with Dixon because he "was quite likely to walk off with the scene."

Dixon began his acting career on Broadway in plays including "A Raisin in the Sun." On film, his credits include "Something of Value," "Nothing But a Man" and the cult favorite "Car Wash."

3. Mostly a straight man on HH, but had one great line I remember.
Hogan called all the guys around and explained that one of them had to volunteer for a mission posing as a German officer.

Kinch looked at Hogan and said "How about me?"

5. I've just completed my Hogans Heros DVD collection
with the purchase of Season 6.

I LOVE THAT SHOW!!!!

I just noticed that Ivan wasn't in Season 6 -- he must have outgrown it.

RIP, Ivan
