Have you been laid off recently?
Not fired for cause, not quit -- laid off.

I seem to have seen a lot of "I got laid off today" posts on the infrequent days that I check in to lurk.

Today was my turn.

3. Laid off on Friday
5 weeks to find another job before severance runs out. Then unemployment will not even cover my rent...

No pressure here. x(

4. I guess technically I have been.
The job kinda went under and started up again under new ownership, but they couldn't afford to keep everyone on. But that was a little more than 3 years ago.

5. I was in September
Thankfully I'm working at a great new job. The old company lost a govt contract and is basically gone. Just a mail server and a 3 people left.

10. FWIW
I was just in Aberdeen SD. I spoke with two companies (I can't say whom) in the mechanical, machining, fabrication line of country. They can't find workers, and they need 'em.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about these companies pay or benefits or union orientation. I know Aberdeen wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but housing is pretty cheap.

14. Me, too...
I was laid off at the end of September...had a couple of good interviews right after but both were put on hold, then the Holiday's came and no one was hiring. After the first of the year, got a position as an office manager, but the person I was replacing had been with the company almost 10 years and was burned out..she hated her new job and wanted her old job back...she got it and I got laid off again. Thank goodness for unemployment; I am lucky, it is enough to just about pay my bills and buy food. I have my resume in consideration for 4 really good positions but the process is so managed (at a university and a hospital) that all I can do is wait for them to call me. I hope you don't have too much trouble finding something quickly. I have to say I am very frustrated but hopeful...still getting that unemployment check for a couple of months...then it's off to work at Kroger if nothing else comes through.

Hang in there and good luck.
