Should the dead be left, well, dead? (possible spoiler alert)

no not that!

that!

well

maybe some other things too ;)

but, Our Body, The Universe Within... saw it yesterday. Very interesting exhibit. Also, a little disturbing when you think about it.

All but one I found very clinical in nature. One display though, well, it got into my mind, and the image is haunting me a bit.

A skinless man, holding a hanger, with his skin hanging on the hanger... Hope that isn't a spoiler, there's so much to see.

Thoughts anyone? Anyone seen it?

:hi:

1. My dear Southpawkicker!
My husband and I have seen it!

And I understand just where you're coming from...

But...

There is much to be learned from an exhibit like that...

I think it's a wonderful thing, to be able to see inside people that clearly!

I still remember vividly the man who had died from lung cancer, from smoking...

The COLOR of his lungs!

I would hope that seeing something like that would make any smoker pause and consider ...

I didn't find the exhibit disturbing, though...

What did you find disturbing?

The fact that those bodies hadn't been disposed of in the "normal" manner?

:hi:

3. No, just the hanger guy

the rest was like an A & P class with lots of expertise in the dissection.

Like I said I found it all very clinical except that one display.

:hi:

2. I wonder if that's still at the museum here
I thought it sounded interesting but my kids were grossed out by the concept. Was it overall disturbing? or would you recommend it? I have a strong interest in medical science and I even thought that it might be helpful for my job (medical transcriptionist) to visualize some of the stuff that I transcribe.

4. I would recommend it
it was not overall disturbing to me at all. My 7 year old wasn't bothered by it, he got bored.

I'm not sure he grasped what it really was, but he thought things were kind of cool at first.

7. it was useful though for science because they're studying the skeleton
and organs so it was good for them to actually see it. She thinks i'm "icky" but you know it's that age.

9. Art meets anatomy.
I took my kids to Body Worlds a couple of years ago and it was fabulous. The hanger display does sound disturbing, but good art often challenges our sensibilities.
