Officiating mistakes from the NCAA Tourney that you're still bitter about
The refs totally blew the call at the end of the 1977 Marquette UNC-Charlotte semi-final. Only a blind person could miss the Marquette player's offensive foul.

I suspect the fix was in.

The "powers that be" wanted Al McGuire to retire with a championship, so they could endlessly replay footage of tears streaming down his face. (And who the hell outside of NC would watch a final game between UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC-Charlotte?)

They also wanted to help launch his broadcasting career so he could popularize the college game.

Is it just a coincidence that the NCAA Tourney became a big deal a couple years after that game?

I think not.

But at what cost?

Cornbread was robbed.

2. Welcome to DU!
You must be new if you don't realize that telling people not to do something just makes some people want to do it even more.

1986 MSU-Kansas, Sweet 16. Clock doesn't run for @30 seconds while Kansas comes back from an 8 point deficit in the last minute or so.

1990 MSU-Georgia Tech, Sweet 16. Kenny Anderson scores after the final horn and the shot is ruled good by the officials to send the game to OT.

5. Iowa State vs Michigan State

When they called a simultaneous block charge ( no possible in the NCAA rule book) that fouled out our 6' 10" guy Paul Shirley. He made the basket on the play that was disallowed and he had shut down the player who ended up making the wining shot. The officials also called a block foul on Marcus Fizer at center court which they almost never do. WE WERE FUCKED IN THE ARSE!

6. Any game that the North Carolina Tar Heels play in.
They get all of the calls their way. I think Dean Smith has been paying off the refs for years!

7. Dean Smith is the guy that convinced Moses Malone to go straight to the pros
He couldn't bear the thought of Malone playing for Maryland as he had originally planned.

What a treacherous sneaky bastard.

8. This is my feeling about Duke, actually.
Then again, as a Maryland fan, I can't claim complete objectivity.

10. 1979 - Indiana State Versus Arkansas
The NCAA just had to have a Byrd-Magic Final regardless of who won the aforementioned game. Arkansas outplayed and outhustled the Sycamores, but the other two guys on the court would have none of it. Sindey Moncrief should have been in the final not Byrd.

12. Who the fuck is Byrd?
I've heard of Larry Bird but the only Byrd I know of is some Senator from West Virginia.

I don't think he has much game.

11. The touch foul on Seton Hall after they'd taken the lead in the final
but then, someone's left pinkie grazes Rumeal Robinson's uniform, the said Robinson goes to the line, he drains two, and Seton Hall fades back into obscurity as a bottom-tier team in the Big East.
