So, here's what I bought tonight.

Six months same as cash. My old stove experienced a small "flame event" while I was using the self clean function. So, since I do not like electric coil stoves, and wanted a ceramic flat top electric, I thought this would be as good a time as any to make the move. I have to go another week without an oven, but I'll survive.

1. My parents used to have a flat top.
I liked it, but you had to make sure you knew when it was on because it was easy to treat it like just another counter and forget that it was a stove now and then. :P

2. It has a light that warns the unsuspecting that the top is still hot.
The salesperson thoughtfully pointed that out to me. I guess I had that "look". ;)

3. Exactly!
My kitchen is old and has limited counter space. I find myself using the flat stovetop as a counter too. It scratches easily and the glass stays hot longer than regular coil units when the burner is turned off.

It's a nice compromise between electric and gas - more control over the temperature.

:hi:

You'll like it...

5. I want gas, but I can't have it.
:(

Code says I have to be able to vent exhaust to the outside to cook with gas, and my house doesn't have that.

But, I'm sure I will like it. However, they recommend not using cast iron. I'm still using mine, but I'll be VERY careful. :D
