Back from the ER with Little MB
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x7590258

First of all, thank goodness, it is NOT meningitis :bounce: but a combination of viral and bacterial infections that have caused the headaches and fever for three days.

They did not subject her to the CAT scan nor the spinal tap *phew*.

Her vitals improved with every dose of advil and tylenol, and it was only when these wore off that the headache/fever resumed.

She was seen by several docs, including a neurologist, and all of them concurred that she did not have to undergo the unpleasentness of the spinal tap nor the radiation from the CAT scan.

She is playing with her webkinz that I bought her for easter but ante'd up on the way to the hospital in hopes that it might alleviate some of the fear of being there.

Thanks for all the good vibes DUers. It seems they really helped my peanut out.

1. That is great news!
Do you ever wonder how we survived without Advil/Motrin?

9. I am so happy they did not have to subject her to the tests....
The docs said that if she were not smiling at them between questions, they probably would have done it...she just did not seem "sick enough" to subject her to them. They understood my GP's referral to the Er wholeheartedly and since they witnessed the fever/headache flareup and subsequent waning, they were very concerned but felt that unless she really showed a drastic decine in the next 48 hours, the antibiotics and in-home care would be the best.

8. I can;'t even say how relieved I am....
I just kept looking at her all night, sleeping deeply and fitfully. I woke her every hour to take her temp and make her drink some gatorade. She woke up howling around 5 with the raging headache and so off we went to the ER.

7. She is to be on tylenol/advil every three hours and
load up on fluids. Bed rest, no foolin around.

My brother's friend who is a doc down in NYC called to tell me there is a ton of meningitis going around in long island, so he also concurred that I should have taken her.

I am so relieved.

I feel so drained right now, and I am being the epitome of the doting mommy right now. Ice cream before noon? Sure. Chocolate? Sure. Heck, I would ride the biggest, most horrific roller coaster for her right now (I hate coasters).

We are all headed for bed soon - well she is on the couch watching a movie and I am headed to bed.
