He was out of control at age 25 and passed away in December of that year. He was a great artist, even though people don't quite realize it. Think "Teaser" before Poison or whoever did it.

28. Sadly, no.. He died pretty much right at the same time I discovered him. |
|
And actually, it took me about 5 years of maturing as a guitarist to truly appreciate his talents.

she is on a fixed income and that's where her prescriptions are - anyways, I always manage to slip a "treat" in the bag - I know she loves to knit so I put a knitting magazine in there - and stood for an hour reading about Randy. The part about his death was awful....Sharon Osborne screamed, "HOW COULD YOU LET THAT BABY GET ON THAT PLANE?" *sniff*

34. Yeah.. from what I've heard, it was a pretty horrific scene.. |
|
I still wonder what the hell he was doing on the plane.. his fear of flying was supposedly legendary. Just a head-shaker all the way around.. someone who was afraid to fly, and who supposedly shuned the drug/partying aspects of the lifestyle dies when a plane piloted by a coked-up nutcase crashes while buzzing Ozzy's bus? Fucking weird.

In fact there is an annual Jazz festival named for him every July. But he was a drug addict so why is there an annual fest named after him? It is a question I have asked numerous times and the answer seems to be money. See, we also have a world class Blues Fest here and it gets nowhere near the pub the Bix fest gets even though we outdraw and outclass the Bix fest each and every year. But the Bix Fest has some surrounding events which make it go and the Blues Fest is all about the music. And only about the music. No street closings for the Blues Fest. In fact, if you are a fan, July 3, 4, and 5 are the dates of the Mississippi Valley Blues Fest this year. C'mon out!

MANY years ago... BTW, a dear friend of mine, the late Sam Franklin , used to play at the Davenport festival. Wondering if you ever saw him (He played tenor sax--had been with Albert Collins for many years, but did some shows under his own name too).

Great names left off of the list. And they name Vicious an artist. The man couldn't even play bass. He was simply image, not talent.

15. I'd add Bix Beiderbecke. |
|
Louis Armstrong once remarked that he never played the tune "Singin' the Blues" because he thought Beiderbecke's classic recording of the song should not be touched. As he later said, "Lots of cats tried to play like Bix; ain't none of them play like him yet".

He just stood in for glen matlock when he left the sex pistols. Vicious was just a junky loser. What a joke. Jim Morrison? Bah, tripe bullshit "poetry" wow, you wrote a poem about your cock, good for you, buddy. Did a 16-year-old write this list?
