Watching the X Files With My Daughters, Damn that was a Good Show
I still miss it... I never watched it in re-runs, so some of the episodes I barely remember. IT's like visiting an old friend.

We are working our way though season 1 right now. My girls (9 and 12) love it... but then again they are really into sci/fi.

1. I liked the early years.
I'm not a big science fiction fan, more of a light horror fan. Anyway, the first few years were decent. I can't remember when the show came out, but there was a big paranormal fever going on in the nation and this show tapped into that, recycling the flotsam and jetsam of myths and stories floating in the culture.

It was an interesting distraction. Not something I took seriously, although the show seemed to take itself seriously. Later, the show seemed to run out of ideas and I got really sick of the multi-part episodes when 'everything would be finally explained'. Except they never were, leading to more multi-part episodes. I preferred the stand-alone eps, where theres no need to go into ties from all the other eps. They also relied more on humour later on and less on trying to scare the hell out of you. I stopped watching at some point before what's his name left the show.

Some episodes that stand out in memory-

'Darkness Falls'- Our heroes are trapped in a forest with insects that only come out at night

'The Host'- A man turns into a flukeworm, non-hilarty ensues

'Arcadia'- A planned community hides a monster, one of the humourous eps

'Home'- See what inbreeding can do? Genuinely creepy.

'Dreamland'- a two-parter, Mulder trades places with an imposter. Very funny.

BTW, Gillian looks like she's high in that photo.

3. maybe she was high
She's from my home town and I know some people who knew her (she's a decade or two older than me). I guess she was some sort of gutter punk back in the 80's. I read an interview with her when they asked her about the city (Grand Rapids, MI), and she said that it was an awful place, she hated it, and never wanted to go back. HA!

Yeah, it looks like they are-

Q: Is the storyline you talked about last year still the same? It won't involve aliens or a science fiction element and have more of a horror element?

David Duchovny: Not a horror film when compared to today's standards like Saw and Hostel but more of a supernatural thriller.

Q: Who is all returning for the film?

DD: The story will revolve around Gillian's character, Dana Scully, and my character, Fox Mulder.

Q: Are they going to address the time issue, the space between each film? Are they still in the FBI?

DD: There is no script completed, they are still developing the entire story.

I didn't even know there was a first one. I was more of a casual fan. But the thing about the Science Fiction genre, it's a pretty good gig for actors, if they're mostly concerned about making a living and not about being typecast. Science Fiction fans are rabid and devoted, and they will pay to see any piece of crap no matter how lame-witness Star Wars prequels. They can both do conventions for the rest of their lives as a guaranteed gig. Not flashy, but it'll pay the rent.

I don't know about Mr. Duchovny, but Gillian is a genuinely good actress outside the genre-I saw her in 'House of Mirth' and loved it.

edit: just realized the page is from March 2007. But I saw IMDB listing it as 'in production' as well, so it's probably a go.

10. My boys are a wee bit younger and refuse to watch. Your girls might like
"Torchwood" but it's a bit more adult (language and pretty much everyone getting into bed with everyone else at some point or other.)

Also, it's not on right now but my guys love "Eureka". (And of course they adore Star Trek of all flavors)

Have you found any other kid-friendly sci-fi? We can always use some more here. :)
