I think its time for a new therapist....again
I got put on "probation" fucking probation.....for missing too many sessions....appareantly being in the hospital, almost dying, and horrible infections are not reason enough to miss. At one point my rash was so bad I couldn't put any clothes on without pain, and had to lie in bed naked....she says I should have found a way to make it. Today I went, despite horrible allergies ( brought an entire box of Kleenex) and back pain that makes it hard to breathe ( because of the rash and how sensitve it has made my skin, I still can not wear a bra and it is causing major problems for my back) I"m just so pissed, if anyone should understand illness, it should be a doctor, and, in my opinion, especially a therapist whom I talk to all the time about my ailments and how they effect me. Am I over reacting....or is it time for a new tdoc?

2. I think you are right
I want to find someone who specializes in dealing with patients who have physical ailments, as well as mental health issues. Pain in my ass.

3. Is your therapist...
a psychiatrist?

Without getting too personal...

I believe that a person should always see a psychiatrist rather than a psychologist for emotional therapy when that person has various physical problems also.

A good psychiatrist will truly understand the mind/body link, and will work with your GP to treat both physical and mental issues.

If this person is indeed a psychiatrist that you are seeing, based only on your OP and nothing else, it doesn't seem like she is doing very well by you. Difficult to say though...without knowing her motivation for putting you on "probation" (sheeesh I hate that word).

4. she is not, I see a psych at the same clinic for meds and stuff
and I see her for talk therapy....she specializes in DBT which is very big on the mind body connection.....but I think she is all talk.....I don't think she really gets what it is like to be sick. Her motivation for putting me on probabtion was to scare me into coming to both therapy and group for the next four weeks, regardless, or I don't think I will be welcome back to therapy with her.....scare tactics....nice.

6. Bottom line....
If you missed the sessions because you were ill, she is wrong to do this to you. It is disrespectful to you.

9. thank you
I needed to hear that. She made me feel like a hypochondiac, or some crazy person who claims to be sick, her actions make me feel unvalidated and that is not right.

"I should be used to it....this has been an issue with every class, job, therapist, SO I have ever had."

As harsh as it may sound sometimes it is necessary to continue therapy despite the physical pain in order to transcend that barrier. Good Luck

18. I simply decided that I had given
enough of my life to pain and that I would learn to live in spite of it. It doesn't happen over night. Be patient with yourself. Stay in DBT:thumbsup:

usually I try and tough it out and plan on going and end up canceling with pretty short notice, but she still gets paid my insurance covers all scheduled sessions, attendance or no.

20. What the hell is "probation" and since when do doctors impose it?
Can't give real advice of course, but my gut feeling is it may be time for a "Fuck you, you're fired" note.

25. I mentioned this in a previous reply to one of your posts
Look for a Clinical Health Psychologist who does mindfulness or mindfulness with CBT.

try contacting http://www.meditationandpsychotherapy.org/aboutimp.html for a referral.

If you don't want to do mindfulness, try contacting:

http://www.mspp.edu/academics/degree-programs/psyd/health-psychology.asp

to get a referral.

But it is important to find yourself a clinical health psychologist. The PhD in clinical psychology here at ASU has a huge health component as do a number of other departments. Students here are specifically trained in the treatment of health, especially chronic pain. The research group I work for studies Fibromyalgia and the graduate students are all clinical students who treat people with chronic pain and chronic illnesses as part of their training.

27. I'll ask around
to see if there are any of our former students in the area or if there are any internships in that area where our students might go.

I'm not a clinical person otherwise I'd be able to probably give you even more guidance.

Good luck finding someone and keep us posted.

Also - look for books by Jon Kabat-Zinn. He's considered the father of American mindfulness.

31. geez, "fire" her... the therapist is not your mother...
bad R.P., you are grounded and must stay in your room

If my therapist did that, he would be replaced (and yes, I do have a therapist). If you are unable to attend due to illness, you should get a pass, not that kind of treatment.
