What do your pets love to do?
My dogs each have an ultimate-bestest-good thing that is tops on their list. :D My dog Vicki gets cold easily, and she LOVES running back in the door after going outside first thing in the morning and snuggling with my husband under the comforter. If he's not fast enough in letting her under the blanket, she gets really upset. :P  She's more insistent when the weather is cold, but she does this all year long.

My dog Casey thinks that greeting me in the afternoons when I get home from work is the best thing in the world. :loveya: :D My husband will let her out the front door just as I've pulled into the driveway, and she stands at the top of the steps wagging with all her might. She never runs off---she waits for me to get out of the car and give her a big kiss on the top of her head. :D

So what do your pets love to do?

1. I don't have pets anymore, but I grew up with some highly intelligent
dachshunds.

Their favorite thing to do was sit up with whoever in the house was sick. They would guard the sick person, and growl at anyone who came near. They were very protective.

And if you need protection, you could do worse than a dachshund, however small it might be. Those things are BRAVE! I've seen a dachshund charge a Doberman four times her size when it encroached on her territory.

Hi, NWC! :hi::loveya:

2. I had a dachsund named Fred when I was growing up.
And yes, he was a very brave little dog! :D :loveya: That's so cool about your dachsunds---they make such great pets for kids too.

Hi, sweetie! :D :loveya:

9. Dachshunds are pretty great
:D My dog is a beagle/dachshund mix, and I love her to bits. :loveya: Also, my aunt and uncle have a miniature dachshund, and he is quite possibly the feistiest little thing I've ever seen! When my cousin brought her big giant dog home with her to visit them, the little dachshund totally took charge, even though he was smaller than most of the bigger dog's toys. It was hilarious. :hi:

18. they better be brave!
they were bred to hunt badgers, some of the meanest critters on earth

what's amazing is not how brave they are, but how sweet they are (if you are not a badger that is)

The dachshund is a short-legged, elongated dog breed of the hound family. The breed's name is German and literally means "badger dog," from (der) Dachs, badger, and (der) Hund, dog. The standard size was developed to scent, chase, and flush badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals, while the miniature was to hunt rabbits. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dachshund

Badgers are fierce animals and will protect themselves and their young at all costs. Badgers are capable of fighting off much larger animals such as wolves, coyotes and bears. Badgers are also known to use their highly dexterous paws to build underground structures that resemble sand castles. These are used for armament and fortification from invaders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badgers

3. Lick themselves. Sure, snuggling with me is great,
but I think if you asked my cats, their single favorite activity is licking themselves.

4. Lick & Flick
Our cat is addicted to the water in our shower.

Every time someone uses the shower, she shows up as soon as it's turned off, and waits patiently for her human to open the shower door. She then proceeds to daintily enter the shower, flicking the water off of each of her paws in turn as she walks in. She then proceeds to drink her fill from the water on the bottom of the shower stall, before flicking her way back out of the enclosure again.

She's been doing this for years now. :silly:

At least she no longer obsessively licks blankets and comforters.

6. Go for car rides
Just put on the shoes and get the keys out of the kitchen drawer and he's at the back door jumping 2 feet off the floor. I'm seriously afraid he's going to land wrong and hurt himself.
Funny, but when we both have to go out without him, like for dinner, he seems to hang back, sensing "not this time."

10. I used to have an English bulldog
That loved to hump the pillows on the patio furniture. He'd pull one off a chair and go to town. Bulldogs drool alot anyway, but you shoulda seen this. We called it his "luv cushion." We finally had to take them away from him when he got real old. Didn't want to kill him.

12. My old bulldog also liked to eat socks.
Heaven help me if I dropped one on the way to the washer. One gulp and it was history. Once down a bulldog, socks do not readily come out, either way. Hubbie and I found that sockectomies can be very expensive. We got very careful after that.

He knows he's not supposed to, and I suspect that makes it more amusing for him. He'll roll around and make lots of noise, and then just wait there for me to come and catch him. ;)

17. I've got a schnauzer now that likes to sing.
But she'll only sing with flute accompaniment. Guitar seems beneath her. Sometimes my other two dogs will join in. Jeez, there ought to be a way to make money off of this. If I could just teach them "Unchained Melody"...

That's when they're not learning Bach's partitas for solo violin, which is impressive considering they don't have thumbs. And they also like to sleep on top of the refrigerator.

23. My cat likes to use my legs and feet to sharpen her claws
Strangely, she won't touch them if I am wearing shoes and long pants, but if there's bare skin, she rips them up and sinks her teeth in with no provocation. My ankles are perpetually covered in scabs from where she drew blood. ANY suggestions on how to stop this would be helpful!

25. Smokey runs amok when I get home
she runs in circles, greets me then takes a lap around the yard, then greets me again. repeat until a walk is provided.

Lucky, our senior canine, just discreetly walks up to my with his tail wagging. He has arthritis, so when we got him an electric dog blankie, that became his favorite thing.

27. I have 2 cats.
Buddy loves to chase the laser pointer. I can tell when he wants me to get it out because he starts looking around for it. Sometimes I put a marble on the tile kitchen floor. Then he swats it around and chases it.

Puppy likes to get under the sheet when we're making up the bed. And in the morning when I'm in the bathroom she waits until I slide the belt from my robe under the door so she can get it. We got her started on both these things during her kittenhood and she remembers.

30. I have two cats.
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 09:12 AM by distantearlywarning
One cat is a big lover. His favorite thing is to be picked up and held and carried around the house like a big fuzzy baby with his tummy in the air. He lets you know that he is ready to be picked up and loved on by tugging at your leg with his little paws. It's the cutest thing ever, and impossible to resist. If you try to put him down before he's done being held, he will stiffen his little body and resist so you can't turn him over. I've never had a cat that refused to be put down before, but he does that all the time!

The other cat loves to play, and has taught himself to play fetch. He lets a human know that he's ready for fetch by bringing one of his fuzzy mice over and dropping at your feet. If you don't notice this bid for attention, sometimes he'll get mad and yell. But the funny thing is that he doesn't know how to meow, he only squeaks. So he makes this incredibly funny loud indignant squeaky noise that sounds just like a rusty door hinge.

I love my two kitties. :loveya:
