The BlueIris Semi-Nightly Poetry Break, 3/27/08 |
|
"Sonnet 4" (from "The Light They Make")
Wet streets, black streets, a gold leaf smacked against our bedroom window as I smolder beside him under a quilt made block by block by hand by mother's mother, getting older than she'd told us, bending closer to stitch, to tug threads tight, then tighter, worrying she might not finish in time to watch me unlatch her cedar chest and find it—hurrying. Relax, my husband says, my ragged sighs making both of us laugh. Either way, we'll still be happy, right? The only light's the bright leaves left in trees against the sky. Of course. It's not the only thing that matters. Come one good gust, the light they make will shatter.

8. LOL. Now I feel like Nessie, or Bigfoot. |

Yeti Dora, that's me!
I often drop in just to read. You and RetroPaul keep me fed. It's always a pleasure to see your picks.
I just finished one of Stella's epsom salt and baking soda soaking baths. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Now I'm going to watch the Oprah/Tolle podcast. (I'm liking this podcast technology, but now I'm thinking I need an iPod!)

a gift from my grandmother while I'm having sex, no matter how much I love that gift. :P
This is beautiful though. The texture of this is kind of ragged too, just like the author's breathing at the end. It sort of fits. :)

Ah, a sonnet!
I cannot write them to save my miserable life, but they sure are pretty!
And I love this one...
I love too the ending line:
Come one good gust, the light they make will shatter.
Thank you!
