I thought this season's Project Runway was a bit of a bust but Top Chef looks real good this year |
|
Discuss.
There were only a few 'personalities' in season 4 of Project Runway. Of course you had Christian, the annoying twit that had talent oozing out of every pore. But I really felt there were very limited people I could identify with. There was no Vincent or Santino or Wendy or other people that just 'POPPED' out at you and said 'LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME'. Some came close (Chris M comes to mind) but I thought Gillian and Rami were about as exciting to watch as paint drying.
But I have a feeling that this season's Top Chef is going to rock. You have the Beard Twins (I still can't tell them apart Andrew, Spike) and I have a feeling that Lesbian couple on the show has some potential as their love is tested in a Reality TV Cooking Show. I think there are a few others with some real potential of making this season really sizzle.
What are your thoughts!

1. I found out that the Top Chef kitchen was very close to me |
|
But I found out after the fact. I have trouble staying up late enough to watch it these days.

4. So far, I'm having trouble warming up to the contestants |
|
Last year I adored CJ and Casey and Dale, and even Hung, annoying as he was. But so far this year they all seem to have a chip on their shoulder. Erik telling Rick Bayless: "screw you" and their attitudes toward a block party in what is definitely not a down-scale Chicago neighborhood. Maybe it's the editing, I dunno. Time will tell.

5. OK, I've read up on the episode |
|
The block party was in one of the nicest areas of Chicago (hint, the governor lives about 2 blocks away).
Telling screw you to Rick bayless is pretty stupid.
I'll watch it this weekend.

6. I actually enjoy the Top Chef show |
|
One of the few reality/competition shows my wife watches which doesn't immediately bore the tears out of me. Perhaps it is because food is good. I really don't care who wins or loses, but it's interesting to see what dishes they make.
Of course, that Project Runway show is painful for me, mainly because clothes--and the fashion industry in general--are very boring to me.

8. PR was boring this year |
|
I am not into the personal sniping, so the fact that they actually got along didn't bother me. As designers though, they were boring. Christian's looks were OK, but he was too retro-goth 80's for me. Rami did really beautiful clothes but he was the Laura of this season- gorgeous, wearable, predictable. I liked some of Chris's stuff, but he was inconsistent and in the end too costumey. Gillian never seemed to have a recognizable personal vision, I just couldn't get a handle on her "look", and didn't think her clothes were that interesting.
Season 3's top 4 designers were all more interesting than any of the top 4 this year. In addition, too many of the PR challenges this year were either glorified product placement shows (clothes made out of Hershey's paraphernalia or Levis' jeans??) or just plain unfashionable (costumes for women wrestlers, prom dresses for prep school teens??)
Top Chef may be OK this time around, but I hope they don't have too many challenges to make gourmet hors d'oeuvres out of vending machine dregs.

10. Too bad your house wasn't on the street block |
|
The Chefs would have had a field day raiding your pantry for the block party picnic

I have a pantry stocked with exotic ingredients.
No hot dogs I am afraid. And the closest they could get to a burger would have been the Boca Burgers.
