Nerds & Geeks - another upate on my D&D campaign (warning, long!)
OK, time for another update into my now six-month old D&D campaign.

The characters now are:
Delvaris, an elf fighter/paladin (2/2)
Narvareuth, an elf fighter (level 4) (just joined last time)
Hurdan, a human rogue (level 4)
Janayla, a human cleric (level 4)
Garin, a human ranger, (also level 4)
Jinyth, a human sorcerer (level 4)

the guy playing the human cleric had to drop out for personal reasons, but the cleric remains as an NPC.

They’re all on the verge of fifth level, and should get there tomorrow night – if they survive.

Here is what had happened before:

So, when we last left our heroes, they were about to encounter a large group of orcs that they suspected had were transporting the now Duke to be Cardor to be sold into slavery in the evil theocracy of Pel Brolenon.

The slavers had several soldiers of their own, plus two mysterious robed figures and a cleric the party had met before.

Luckily, the party got there a bit late and a dispute between the orcs & the slavers got violent... the orcs were dispatched as the two robed figures revealed themselves to be drow female drow warriors, which stunned the players. The one named Chovexani, with hair down to nearly the ground, proved to be quite formidable, as she took down an ogre with one swing of her sword.

The party, though, waited and after the orc/slaver battle was finished, they swooped in for the kill, hoping to take advantage of the slavers being down a few spells, and a few soldiers.

Joining the party were the aforementioned cleric and ranger, and also a gigantic human barbarian, and a burly, but older, human warrior.

The sorcerer’s sleep spell managed to knock out a charging ogre, while the ranger & barbarian occupied the remaining human soldiers. The elf fighter rushed Chovexani, but was blasted and nearly taken out (she delivered a shocking grasp spell through her sword…). The rest of the party also rushed up to engage her and the evil cleric.

After some back & forth, the party took out the evil cleric and forced the drow to run away… they managed to interrogate the evil cleric, who revealed that they had recovered something of vast importance when they had trashed Garin’s village a few months earlier.

They also managed to save Cardor, the duke to be, who did reveal that was he now a weretiger. And, they also freed several other slaves and slaves to be.

The party thought perhaps the dryad, Thelia, would be able to help them with a cure. They journeyed to see her, and she informed them that she could possibly cure the lycanthropy, but would need the pure form of belladonna for her spell, which is only found in a nearby marsh, jealously guarded by a green hag and her ogre consorts.

So, the party sent the freed slaves off to Yelden to be sent back home, under guard from the burly warrior and the big barbarian, and proceeded to head off to the marsh.

At the edge of the forest, however, they were ambushed by the werefox in the guise of a beautiful elf maiden, some dire foxes and a couple of allies of hers. The encounter turned tricky when the party sorcerer fell victim to her Charm Person spell and turned on his companions. Luckily, the spell was broken when she had to turn into her fox form and retreat.

From there, the party then went into the marsh, and had a showdown with the green hag and her two ogres companions. The party declined to negotiate, and it was a tough battle that the PCs won. They found the belladonna and went back to see Thelia.

(From the battle with the slavers & the drow to now, several days elapsed in game)

When re-entering the forest, the party was informed by Xan the pseudodragon that the forest was crawling with orcs seemingly looking for something. They gave some belladonna to Xan to fly off to Thelia, and went orc-hunting. He informed them that Thelia was sending some allies to help them.

They encountered a patrol of orcs, which they dispatched, though not without some difficulty, as orcs with two-handed weapons can be nasty when they actually hit.

Soon after, they ran into another patrol of orcs, but this one was led by two drow warriors. They managed to defeat that patrol as well, but the drow escaped.

Later on, they found a patrol of human soldiers marked in colors that indicated they were from the evil theocracy of Pel Brolenon – more slavers. This patrol was led by an evil druid, who managed to entangle the party with a spell that made the grass and bushes come to life about them. The players that managed to escape the 40 by 40 square were all in different locations, and the party rogue was then rushed by the druid’s animal companion, a black bear. The soldiers kept the other players busy, while the druid and the bear almost finished off the rogue. Arriving in the nick of time to save him, though, were Dawn Strider the unicorn (thanks again to Dark Tirade!) and Chouette the giant owl, who managed to turn the tide against the bad guys.

The party managed to interrogate two of the bad guys and found out that an evil cleric named Torvin was seeking to destroy the Heart of the Wood and had sent a huge force to do it, including more orcs & soldiers, plus a hill giant and more drow.

They hastened back to see Thelia, thinking she might be The Heart of the Wood. It was then that the burly warrior came back and revealed himself to be part of an anti-slavery group called The Brotherhood of the Broken Chain, which the players have dubbed the BBC. With him was a very tall grey elf with black eyes (the second elf PC) and a woman who revealed herself to be the twin sister of the girl that had gone missing way way back at the beginning of the campaign.

Her name was Dawn and her missing sister was Evelyn. Her sister had not been kidnapped, but had gone to join the BBC. Her father, being a merchant of some status, thinks the BBC to be a cult-like organization and took to calling her kidnapped. Dawn took off by herself to find her sister…

Thelia revealed that she thinks her cure worked, but won’t know for sure until the next full moon, which just happens to be that night.

The party prepared for battle and ended up taking the fight to the bad guys when they broke into two halves to go around a lake, as the group of orcs was moving at a faster pace than the group of humans. The party ambushed the group of orcs, goblins and worgs and a pitched battle ensued, with the PCs coming out victorious, but using up a lot of spells and healing… more than they anticipated. The new elf fighter proved himself to be mighty in combat, taking out the orc leader.

Now, the party is back in Thelia’s grove preparing for the second wave – they anticipate 20-30 minutes of in-game time.

The party, plus Thelia, the burly fighter, Cardor (if healed…), Cardor’s son Mordeln, his friend Brand, and a few stragglers from the BBC are faced off against:

Torvin, the evil cleric. His hill giant slave
two low level cleric companions
three drow elves, including Chovexani
and about 15 soldiers.
Oh, they have about 10 human slaves among them as well.

If they survive, the party will find out they are champions that were prophesied about ages ago and are meant to stop the evil deity who the theocracy of Pel Brolenon pays homage to (Known as The Overlord). They are to try to stop the Overlord from implementing his plan to conquer the world and usher in 1000 years of darkness and tyranny. They will also get some cool (IMHO) magic weapons as well.

1. Stay you! Creative people are my favorite people.
I have not played D&D for years, but I do write & draw my own comics- which is a similar exercise...

Do you guys play with all the old books & die, or is there some computer software that you guys use?

3. it's been pretty good
I'm trying to get the group to do a bit more "role" playing, as opposed to roll-playing. But, since it's an all new group, I'm not being too tough.

I just hope your namesake can survive & become an ongoing nemesis.

My buddies are just killing me with this GURPS crap. Hell, I couldn't even talk them into playing a memorial campaign when Gary Gygax died!

I have enjoyed the updates of your campaign, and its good to know that there is some D&D being played somewhere. Good luck Dungeon Master!
