My pregnant daughter was called a socialist by her father in law . |
|
..on Easter Sunday. She and her husband supports Obama, and her husband left the discussion earlier, calling his father a fascist. It seems like they had a really happy Easter without me! Btw..the father in law watches Fox News for news.

8. Well, they are closer, geographically , to them |
|
We can only do so much. And they are his parents, and he loves them, even though there are these differences. We like them, on the surface, and we don't see them that often, so it's all good, except for the impending shared grandchild...

after his son (her husband) called him a fascist. I'm soooo glad I'm not in Kansas anymore! (even though I'm now in Texas, but I love a good fight!).

9. people who use the term "socialist" in that way |
|
usually have no idea what they are talking about.
To say that any American politician is a "socialist" in this day and age seems to harken back to some bizarre concept typical of how Americans saw the Soviet Union in the past.
It's absurd and inaccurate. So many aspects of American government have a 'socialist"" bent to them and have for years. What do they think the concept of Social Security means, for example? Taking care of people is a socialist concept, Bush does it.
How ridiculous.

How was it said?
Was it the laughing "you're a socialist" but we love you anyway?
Was it the grumpy "you're a socialist" but we love you in spite of it?
Was it the disgusted "you're a socialist" and have the baby then get out of our family?
I love my Papa ... my paternal Grandfater.. a lot (he's no longer with us). He was an agronomist and a Reagan Republican from way back. My mom tells stories about how she'd talk about Rachel Carson and "Silent Spring", and he'd just sit there and seethe. But it all worked out, and he always was great to my Mom.

12. It was, you are a socialist, as he left the room. |
|
His son, her husband, already left the room, calling him a fascist. It was not a happy Easter for them, which makes me sad, since we share the same political beliefs, and we're not together.

This is going to be another election (like the last two) (or three) that are going to tear apart families, workplaces, and neighborhoods.
I hope they can get past this. I'm betting they will. They, obviously, are not the first family to have a major holiday meltdown.

Even though my daughter and her husband live the closest. I do wish we were closer to them, since we see things so much the same. It's tough, when you get right down to it. :hi:
