19. It's almost 2 am here ... I can't sleep

I returned from a trip back to where I grew up and it always takes me a few days to shake the nagging feeling of ... what? ... alienation? ... discord? ... I wish I could just feel at home with "regular" Americans, but I just generally don't. It makes it tricky when I have to interact with people that members of my immediate family have become close with, and I find myself weighing every word I say before I say it ... *sigh* I'm glad to be back in Portland amongst my people.

The town I grew up in is in the Bay Area. I LOVE the Bay Area, but I have to say, I stopped feeling at home in this 'burb when I was a teenager. When Reagan era, and it seemed like a lot of people turned into rightwing a-holes overnight. I think that scarred me to this day.

Berkeley -- that's the town I love. :loveya: And San Francisco. :loveya: I've lived in both. I don't think my family understands why I'm always so eager to go into Berkeley when I'm there.

Lived in S.F. for 16 years and loved it. Never lived in Berkeley but I always enjoy visiting.
