Trio Try to Rob Martial Arts Expert (ends less than well)
TBO.com

Published: March 28, 2008

Three people who tried to rob a 42-year-old man in Bradenton early this morning may wish they had chosen a different target.

Two men and a woman approached a man in the parking lot of Health Care America, 3600 Cortez Road W., just after midnight, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said. The woman pointed a handgun at him and demanded his jewelry.

The man, who is a tae kwon do expert, pushed the gun away and kicked the woman in the face before fleeing across a street to a Shell gas station to call 911, deputies said.

The trio got in a car and followed him, then fled east on Cortez Road. They have not been located.

The man was not injured, and the robbers did not get anything from him, deputies said.

LOL!
I'm glad it turned out that no one was seriously hurt.

2. nice.
I had an amusing thing happen last night which made me kind of proud. First off, I've said it before, but I'll say it again - I think fighting is pretty dumb, but I also know how to do it, and won't hesitate to defend myself/another if it comes down to it and it cannot be avoided. Also, the following was in the form of 'playing' so I know it's not the same, but anyway....

I was at a bar last night, and a friend of mine who is essentially a big human tank was messing with me - again, we were sorta play fighting on the sidewalk - and he grabbed me in a sort of bear hug. Keep in mind, that despite me being 6'2" and 185-190#, this guy makes me look little. Anyway, not even that consciously, I wrapped my legs around his, leaned back, and twisted him onto the ground pretty easily. It just felt good in a "dude" sort of way to know I was able to do it still, despite not practicing much and being smaller.

It's funny - since I started studying martial arts years ago, I've luckily only had to use them a few times, including once rolling out of a fall when I went over my handlebars, but it's funny how your muscle memory works pretty well.

3. An indictment of the American educational system.
If people watched more bad movies, they'd know plans like this turn out badly.
