How in hell do I play an MP3 CD? |
|
It won't play on my home or my car CD players. They're both old, does that matter?

4. If you have a computer with an mp3 player, such as iTunes. |
|
You can dump the MP3s to iTunes, then reburn them via the Advanced tab. Switch to Audio CD then burn.

5. Yes, do you have Windows Media Player? |
|
Or any CD-burning software? Tell us what you have (operating system, etc).

8. What you're looking for is to make an "Audio CD" |
|
not a "Data CD" - some disc burning programs can automatically convert music files into the standard Audio CD format, but it depends on your specifics (and I don't use a Mac so I can't really advise too much). Ask your daughter how she uses the CD burning software maybe?
Good luck. It's totally do-able, so that's not an issue -- just the specifics of how.

9. She does this with other regular CDs and I think iTunes (not sure). |
|
This MP3 CD isn't music, it's a recording of several actors reading American and English poetry. Jodie Foster, Glenn Close, Helen Mirren, John Lithgow, Susan Sarandon. It's an addendum to Lithgow's new book "Poets Corner."
I'm crustily academic and awful at technology...

10. It's ok that it's not music |
|
I do this all the time with non-music mp3s, it doesn't matter, it's just the format called "Audio CD" that puts it into a format that typical CD players (that don't have mp3 support) can play. But, bear in mind that there's a HUGE size difference. An Audio CD goes by time, typically 70-80 minutes or so, so it will take several Audio CDs to hold what one mp3 CD can hold (an mp3 CD, depending on the compression, can hold LOTS of hours - a typical size is 15MB/1 hour voice recording)
I don't use iTunes, but I imagine that software has the ability to do what you need.

11. OK, there are 50 tracks on this MP3 CD of poetry readings that are |
|
a variety of lengths, from sonnets to short poems. Nothing epic length like "The Iliad" for instance. I'd guess that each is about the length of a song on a CD. How many regular CDs would we need to plan for to transfer this MP3 CD?
Thanks for your help andyour patience with me!

12. Probably about 5 CDs (give or take) |
|
A typical CD has, what, like 10-15 tracks, each about 3-7 minutes?
Some software, when you tell it to convert the files, will calculate and tell you how many CDs you'll need.
Keep asking questions if you have them. You'll get it done.

7. Also, if that mp3 disk is packed full of mp3s |
|
be prepared to have a stack of CDs after the decompression and burning. Mp3s typically decompress to about 10 times their packed size. So, a 5meg mp3 will give you a 50meg wav, since that's the format used on CDs.
Good luck :)
