2. That's him. Is he trying to sell Olive Oyl a retractable bowling ball with a lifetime warranty?

3. He keeps me from falling asleep when I'm watching TV.
And, by the way, why in hell are they allowed to broadcast commercials at a louder volume than the regular programming?

4. Aha, but it isn't louder. It is merely "compressed".
What they do is take the audio in the commercial and reduce the difference between the "loud" and "soft" portions to almost nothing.

The illusion is that the commercial is louder than the regular programming, when in fact you are just hearing all the audio mashed at the top end of the volume scale.

7. That's interesting. So, the loudest part of the commercial is no louder
than the loudest part of the regular programming, but there's more of it? Still, doesn't that mean that the average noise level of the commercial is higher than for the regular programming? If 'loudness' is thought of as 'perceived noisiness,' I'd still say that ads are louder...

Thanks - I've learned my one new thing for the day. :)

5. I refuse to buy any product he's screaming about.
I dunno if they work or not, the commercials are so freaking offensive I am not spending a cent of my money to find out.
