Let me welcome Piri and Pyrz, two pacific parrotlets, to my family!

With carpal tunnel getting really annoying, i have spent a lot of time away from the PC - I apologize for not writing back sooner.

I also bought Piri (left) - she was alone at the pet shop and loved my company.

3 weeks later, she showed signs of neuroses. (banging her beak against things when not being catatonic) - so I got Pyrz (right). They took like butter to bread. I think they are a matched pair. The pic of them both was taken 15 minutes ago, and Piri is scratching Pyrz's neck. She is SO much happier with him and she is finally playing with the toys.

I'll miss her tameness as both of them will bonk and make babies, but compared to seeing her bang her beak all over the place, it's worth it.

3. With steak sauce!
Just joking!

Just watching them play and listening to them chirp is relaxing enough. :)

Can parrolets mimic/talk or do they just chirp? I love the blue iridescent feathers.
BTW, welcome back HT.:)

5. These models just chirp

Which is for the best. Zoe did a great impression of the fire alarm...

They are VERY feisty critters; and far more social (Piri alone I couldn't work with :( ) -- during breeding time, no doubt they'll think me an outsider and dive-bomb me...

I bet they are loads of fun and work too! I love birds. My mother, grandmother and aunts all had budgies. Such commitment should be applauded. Enjoy :)

14. Well, I got Pyrz because Piri was acting neurotic...
She wanted to spend all her time with me; when in her cage she was catatonic when not banging her beak on everything or walking upside down on the cage ceiling in circles...

Pyrz will adjust with time too, but apart from the occasional poke, both look VERY happy together. 'course, they're on separate perches right now... :)

16. That was a tough call. It is great to have a close companion in a bird, but you
thought of his overall well-being and have lost a friend, but gained a happy pet. Good on you.

Are these your only birds?

17. Yes, they are the only two birds...
Piri has never been happier, and she took to playing with the toys once she got tired of Pyrz. They even play with the SAME toy at the same time.

Plus, I think they will breed at some point; raising babies will really be cool. I'll hand-raise one of them. Given Piri's and Pyrz's origins, they deserve each other and in a good home.

Plus, it's calming listening to them twitter together.
