Classic movies from the 80's
I'm not talking about movies that make people nostalgic for the music and clothes. But a movie made in the decade that you'll show your kids even though it's 25 years old.

Mine is The Goonies. What's not to like about this movie?

2. Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Goonies, Back to the Future
and I guess you can count Return of the Jedi in there as an 80s movie, although the rest of the trilogy was from the 70s.

4. Raiders is the perfect answer to my question.
I call it my favorite movie of all time, but I never really think of it as a movie from the decade. It's such a part of me that I can't remember the first time I saw it. Like it's always been with me somehow. I wish I could wipe all memory of it and see it in the theaters for the first time. Then walk out going "Wow. That was one hell of a movie".

8. Some of those are from the 70's
Jaws
Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles
Meatballs

That being said, those are all great films. They played Young Frankenstein at the Castro Theatre in SF last week. There was a special appearance by Gene Wilder.

14. Tootsie (the most confounding love triangle --ever!)

and it is a great movie.

and I always thought that considering how he tried to get the Lange character should have obliterated his chances at the end of the movie. but I was wrong --that's Hollywood! Hollywood! Hollywood!

23. I agree that The Princess Bride is one of the best movies of the 80s. Everyone should own it!
On a more somber note, Platoon had a profound effect on me. I really felt like I was there and I didn't like it.

24. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0084726/

Best Trek ever, 'cause it didn't waste time trying to be good, and by pulling out every last damned stop, became awesome.
