XBOX or PSIII?
Tell me XBOX, cuz that's what I bought. Plus a month ago I bought a standalone Blu-Ray player (I know, I know).

1. I've got both.
I'd like to say XBox since it has a larger selection of games, but it just hasn't been very reliable for a lot of people. I don't know what the failure rate on those consoles is, but EVERYONE I know has had theirs' replaced at least once (I'm on my third in the last year) due to the Red Ring Of Death:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_ring_of_death

It's a shame they have been so unreliable, especially since it's just so fun to play. I want to get into Mass Effect, but my warranty expired, and I don't want to buy the game and have my 360 die on me again. And I refuse to buy a brand new one, at least for two or three years until MS decides to get the kinks out.

8. I've never had that problem with my XBox 360.
I always turn it off when I'm not playing it and I keep it well ventilated.

10. I do the same thing.
So did a lot of people who had their consoles die. I've had my PS1 since 1998, and my PS2 since 2001, and neither has had any defects whatsoever. I treat them the same way I treat my 360, and yet the RROD has happened twice anyway. Clearly, it's a manufacturing error. I've been playing video games for about 25 years now, so I kinda know how to take care of my stuff.

4. I want to get a Blu-Ray player
If you buy a PS3, you get a Blu-Ray player with a free next-gen gaming system. No brainer.

5. I used to be a Playstation fan
and a Microsoft hater... but lately my world has been turned upside-down. Sony's been screwing up left and right, and Microsoft's been doing more things right than wrong. I'm so confused.

7. Ridiculously expensive console, choosing the expensive format, really expensive games
Edited on Sun Mar-30-08 11:14 PM by DarkTirade
and yet not really doing anything new or innovative to warrant the extra cost. Whereas the X-box 360 went with tried and true combined with reasonable costs, and the Wii went with something fun, interesting and different.

*edit* And on a personal note, as an amateur/indie gamemaker, the fact that Microsoft released free development software for the 360 so people like me can dabble is just frikkin' awesome. Now I just gotta work on my C#. :)

17. Yeah, you're right.
I haven't been paying much attention lately because I can't afford either one at the moment. :P I was just remembering what they were saying when it was first coming out. They were expecting the games to cost more mostly because of the higher cost of blu-ray disks.

Still, the console itself is prohibitively expensive. I didn't even pay that much for my computer.

19. They're only $400 now; that's hardly prohibitively expensive
Especially when you consider that you get a BluRay player included for your $400.

20. As compared to about half that for a basic Xbox 360.
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 03:38 PM by DarkTirade
With the option to go for a higher-end one for a higher price for those who are willing and able to pay that much. For those of us who don't have money to hose around, that's prohibitively expensive.

*edit* Holy crap... I thought the Wii was cheaper than that too. I just looked online... guess not. When you don't have the money for it, you tend to stop window-shopping to avoid tormenting yourself. :P So I haven't been keeping up with console news that well.

Still, it has something interesting and new as I said before, whereas the PS3 is sticking with the same-old same-old.

9. XBox.
I've never cared for the Playstation consoles.

I bought the XBox just for Halo 3 (which turned out to be only an ok game). And I guess for Oblivion. That's the best game of all time, IMO.

13. Yeah, I play on PC too.
Unfortunately, my rig's about 4 years old, so it's not exactly Crysis-ready. The upgrades I put in there (1.5 GB RAM, GeForce 6600GT 256 MB video card) are good enough to play most new games, but I've got a single-core 2.2 GHz CPU. Time to upgrade for sure.

14. LOL..your's is way better than mine.
But thankfully I'm into mostly strategy and wargames, so I don't need a ton of processing power. The odd RPG I play usually works (Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 sucked up about six months of my life).

I have a PS2 but use it only rarely, mostly for sports games. There's a total dearth of strategy games for any console (Front Mission 4 was ok), but when it comes to sports games it kicks ass over the PC versions.

And I play a lot of emulation stuff, so I guess that's taking consoles to the pc. :)
