Interesting fact about Geddy Lee of Rush
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 01:51 PM by LynneSin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geddy_Lee#Early_life

Lee's parents were Jewish refugees from Poland who had been survivors of Nazi concentration camps Dachau and Bergen-Belsen during World War II. In 2004, Canadian Jewish News featured Lee's reflections on his mother's experiences as a refugee, and of his own Jewish heritage. <10>

Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 09:16 PM by Rabrrrrrr
and I've seen a few.

This tour is fucking stellar in tightness, control, musicianship, and pure amazingness.

AND they're doing Witch Hunt AND Natural Science, two of my favorites.

9. You mean, Gary Weinrib?

Sorry, I love Rush and think the world of them. But in the annals of rockdom, Gary Weinrib has to be the nerdiest, awful name. And Geddy Lee is one of the coolest. He's certainly one of the bassest-ass bass players the world of rock has ever seen.

Rush, in fact, is one of the baddest-ass sets of musicians ever assembled.

All the Rush haters out there can go fuck yourselves.

12. I like this Geddy character! Reading from the wiki source:
"As of 2002, Lee no longer uses traditional bass amplifiers on stage, as he chooses to use a venue's "house" speakers. Faced with the dilemma of what to do with the empty space left behind by the lack of large amplifier cabinets, Lee chose to fill the space in a unique way. For the 2002 Vapor Trails tour, Lee lined his side of the stage with three coin-operated Maytag dryers. Other large appliances would appear later in the same space. (Lee had earlier decorated his side of the stage with unusual items. For the 1996-1997 Test for Echo tour, Lee's side sported a fully-stocked old-fashioned household refrigerator.)"

The dude is HIGHlarious!

13. On the current tour, he has three chicken rotisseries cooking chicken through the show.
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 09:29 PM by Rabrrrrrr
And every now and again a stage hand - they appeared to be, perhaps, winners of a radio contest - come out dressed as cooks and baste the chickens.

One thing I love about Rush is that their music is so utterly fucking serious, complex, difficult, and hard-edged ass-kicking jamming, but when they perform, they do almost everything tongue-in-cheek and are clearly having a totally fun and hilarious time on stage, making faces at each other, doing the dryers/rotisserie/other stuff, hilarious videos (their South Park video announcing Tom Sawyer is funny as hell!) and so on.

Here's the South Park intro:

22. Believe it or not, I actually knew that, I found it out when I read an interview years ago
they discussed the song "Red Sector A". Geddy based that song on his parents experiences:

All that we can do is just survive
All that we can do to help ourselves is stay alive

Ragged lines of ragged grey
Skeletons, they shuffle away
Shouting guards and smoking guns
Will cut down the unlucky ones

I clutch the wire fence until my fingers bleed
A wound that will not heal
A heart that cannot feel
Hoping that the horror will recede
Hoping that tomorrow well all be freed

Sickness to insanity
Prayer to profanity
Days and weeks and months go by
Dont feel the hunger
Too weak to cry

I hear the sound of gunfire at the prison gate
Are the liberators here?
Do I hope or do I fear?
For my father and my brother, its too late
But I must help my mother stand up straight

Are we the last ones left alive?
Are we the only human beings to survive?
