Some job hunting/interview advice

So I was forced to resign from my job in early February and despite all the applications and interviews I've had since then I have not been able to find a job.

I'm applying for a job at my old university and thought I would pose a question to the lounge. Its inevitable that they're gonna ask me why I left my old job, what would be a good answer? I do have 3 positive references from some senior level people at my old job but still I'm a lil unsure what to say.
