5. Geez. What a waste of money.
:eyes:
I'm not sure that Detroit needs another business that'll go under and leave lots of people out of work. :(

9. That's okay.
Retrolounge is going to open a used book fantasyland! I'm going to have my own ThomCat's Lounge there where people can lay down in comfy spots in the sun while people read to us. :)

I'll send you tickets for the opening weekend. :P

7. To be fair, there are some pretty crappy things about Chicago, too...
Like all your sports teams, for one.

And your citizens, for another.

And George Fucking Wendt.

11. I'm not sure whachoo talkin' 'bout, but Detroit has some very nice parts
The nexus of Chicago and Gary Indiana, on the other hand, is one of the most horrifying, post-apocalyptic places I've ever been!

Edited on Tue Apr-01-08 09:43 AM by datasuspect
then i can see where you are coming from.

last time i was there, it looked like a war had happened. a war on the american worker or something.

i guess you haven't been to chicago since the early 90s?

15. Nope. Downton Detroit.
Downtown Detroit is cleaner, nicer, and safer these days than it has been in my lifetime.

It's too bad his honor the mayor is a lying POS, because the trains are otherwise running on time around here.

18. You got that right.
I was downtown for some of the Friday Night music at Campus Martius and I couldnt' believe how may folks were there. Sure didn't look like an average weekend when I was a kid. Downtown was a virtual ghost-town.

19. i've been thinking the same thing
there are actually some nice areas in the greater detroit area, such as ann arbor

you might have to go a bit higher than two bits an acre for the really choice spots...

20. I was born there, and have many relatives in the area ....
the suburbs are very nice, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Troy, Rochester ...

Parts of the city are interesting, too.

You can by houses very cheap in the city itself. The suburbs missed the price run-up much of the rest of the country had in the early 2000s.

The economy, though, is in the toilet and keeps getting worse.

21. You know what? You would be getting a very beautiful piece of land.
It's really a pretty place, believe it or not. Be sure to have Belle Isle included in the purchase price.

23. Go for it
I'll even pitch in some money to help with the purchase as long as you promise, upon acquiring the whole place, to officially change its name to "Detroit Rock City"!

(Yeah, so I'm not so good at the whole attempting to make a joke thing. At least I'm trying. haha)
