I'm losing my beloved dogwood tree! Tell me what I should replace it with! |
|
Every May for the past 17 years (except last year when I was hospitalized all of May)this lovely tree has bloomed pink blossoms that turned my bedroom pink in the afternoons.
But soon it will go and there is no hope. I would like to replace it with another tree that will have pink blossoms in the spring but I can't take a chance on another dogwood.
Please give me suggestions...

I have 2 in my yard.... they are my most favorite thing in the spring....
when they die I will be very upset.... been around forever
we only have mature white flowering trees here because a few years....
maybe 10 or so a blight came and killed all the pink blooming ones.... I haven't seen a pink one since
lost
sorry about your tree...

I am so sorry to hear you're losing your beautiful dogwood...
I'm not sure what color the flowers are, but how about a tulip tree?
We had one in our yard years ago, and it was glorious!
Covered with flowers every spring!

The birds love the berries... If you're positive you want something else, you could try a redbud: or perhaps a pink magnolia: http://bp0.blogger.com/_toQJpEqatN4/RjEk-dIMqEI/AAAAAAAABVQ/moydWnZCcaQ/s400/magnolia+tree+2+sm.jpg

9. I guess I wanted a tree that draped around our house the way the dogwood did. |
|
I'm afraid to get another dogwood because they seem to be doomed, for what I am told. I don't really know why.
However, we're certainly not going to be in this house for more than 4 more years so I shouldn't really worry. I could get a dogwood, which would be nice for me, and then let nature take its course with the next owner!

I have cherry trees and redbud and I love them both. Still not the caliber of blossom as a dogwood. However redbuds are very inexpensive so you would get a bigger tree for your dollar, and cherry trees have good fall color.
Maybe you should go for some annual flowers for a zap of pink blossoms.
Happy tree planting. Enjoy Arbor Day.

11. Thanks for the nice post. |

My dogwood is at the corner of my house so it "wraps" around the side of the house. The beautiful effect of pink blossoms with the sun behind them creates the lovely light coming through my bedroom windows. It's something I find hard to give up, but I know I must because my bedroom is on the second floor and I know that I won't be able to replace the tree with anything that reaches over 10 feet right away!
