Inspiration sometimes comes in strange packages.
The plastic button broke off inside my vehicle's electronic lock clicker, and since it's so damned old it's impossible to find a matching case anywhere. So I've been trying to figure out what I could use to repair it with- I needed something soft so it wouldn't damage the micro switch it had to engage, but not so soft it wouldn't work. Dense sponge, I decided. Not as firm as rubber, but something that I could shape to fit in the button hole and would not easily wear out.

Then it hit me- old cushion insoles. I recently replaced mine, and the old ones were still here somewhere- I found one in my closet. Sure enough there was a nice undamaged (and miraculously CLEAN) section left, so I took my scissors and went to work.

Ten minutes later my clicker was working- one and a half layers of insole held loosely in place with a loose wrap of black cloth tape, and I had a brand new clicker button.

Damn, it WORKS.

Damn, I'm GOOD.
