and it works, nice condition, heads/chassis immaculate. the cord is two prong, ungrounded and has a paper tag on it. the lady thought it was a film projector. said she's had it in a closet since forever. original packaging to boot. yay!

the metal label on the back says it had to go through an outfit in hollywood before being sold in the US. i'm thinking it's mid 60s vintage.

i suppose finding tapes will require more legwork.

6. Fuck!!!
There's a place (or there was a place) in Chicago where you can get it refurbished... I know, because a friend of mine had an old tascam reel-to-reel and took it there.... that was maybe 6-8 years ago.

I mixed an e.p. on that baby (first recorded digital multitracked, then mixing to tape and then putting the tapes back to a digital stereo master). The tape made it sound fucking incredible. I could not believe that it could make such a dramatic difference. Shit, if I ever record a rock/pop record again, I want one. And if you decide you want to sell it, I bet my former bandmate in Chicago will take it off your hands.

7. you lucky dog
I have a small collection of reel to reel machines started. My best piece so far is a mint '77 model Teac 2340 4 track. I'm always looking for a buy on one.

Here's a good site to look at for info on the old machines, he's got a bunch of them.
