NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK - Reuniting!!!

(CNN)BOSTON, Massachusetts (AP) -- They may be pushing 40, but the New Kids are returning to the block.

The boy band New Kids on the Block, which sold 70 million albums in the 1980s and early '90s, has reunited and plans to release a new album and go on tour. The reunion comes 20 years after the release of the group's multiplatinum album, "Hangin' Tough."

"The fan response to this has been incredible," band member Donnie Wahlberg told the Boston Herald.

Wahlberg said he was persuaded to get back together with his former bandmates -- Joey McIntyre, brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood -- when they decided to record new music. Wahlberg said he wrote 80 percent of the new material with McIntyre and Jordan Knight.

"I had no interest going out on a nostalgia tour and singing the same material," said Wahlberg, 38.

But he added: "We absolutely will do the old songs for sure."

Producer Maurice Starr formed the group in Boston in the 1980s, hoping to recreate the success he had with another teen group from Boston, New Edition.

At the height of their popularity, New Kids sold out world tours, marketed millions of dollars in merchandise and spawned a Saturday morning cartoon.

The group disbanded in 1994. Wahlberg has acted on television and in movies, while Jordan Knight, McIntyre and Wood released solo albums. Jonathan Knight became a real estate developer.

OK, the Faux excitement in my headline is a bit misleading. Anyway.. this just came across on CNN. As a 30 year old, I fondly remember my first crush of marrying "Jordan" back in 1988 or whenever... unfortunately that didn't work out, but my husband seems to be filling in nicely. ;)

HA! So my question is how many 30+ year old women would actually line up to see these guys in concert? It might be fun just to see how idiotic they look... who knows. ;)

11. Hey, 40 is not old!!
And if they've been around the block, that's their business and we don't need to hear about it.

Or maybe we should; that way if they happen to be fathers, are in palimony suits, and/or are spreading herpes, we'd know about it in advance...

5. You'd have thought..
I told my husband that if they would have released this story on April 1st, no one would have believed it. But, CNN seems to think it has legs....

Nothing like 5 forty year old guys jumping up and down screaming "Hanging Tough". Wow.. just.. wow.

7. But why? Just why?
What publicist/agent thought this was a good idea? And what the hell is Wahlberg thinking? He should stick to tv/movies.

20. And so NKOTB joins the hordes of forgotten geriatric bands stuck on perpetual tour
Blah.

IMO, the NKOTB members should be exiled to a remote island for bringing the whole boy-band concept back from the dead.

24. Seeing them in Concert now
is not the same as when I was 15. That would have been fun with my friends. Now it is just weird since I am not in touch with anyone from that time in my life.
