Windows Vista users, have you updated to SP1?
I have Vista Ultimate 64bit, and just updated to SP1 a few hours ago, so far its doing great. Everything seems to load up faster, file transfers and such is much improved. Boot up time was like 30 seconds before SP1, now it takes like 10 seconds less! My games are running a little better too. Though I never had any reliability problems before, I still dont now.

My pc specs are..

Core 2 Duo Q6600 overclocked to 3.4ghz (will upgrade to a E8400 when there more avaliable)
EVGA 680i SLI motherboard
4gigs pc800 memory
150gig Western Digital Raptor 10,000rpm hard drive
500gig storage drive
Two EVGA Geforce 8800gt video cards in SLI (soon to upgrade to a 9800GX2)
Tuniq T-120 cpu cooler
Thermaltake Soprano case
Thermaltake 700w psu
22" Samsung LCD widescreen monitor

1. Yes and No
I have a Home Premium 32bit Desktop which is at SP1. My laptop with Ultimate 32bit has not been pushed via Windows Update yet (though I know I can download the entire package online and install). My laptop is my main machine and I have not had the time yet to backup and have enough time blocked off in case I need a reinstall from scratch. My SP1 install has worked perfectly for a couple of weeks now.

2. Thats good to hear!
What I dont understand is the problems people are having with it. Yes its a resource hog, most lower end computers struggle to run Vista at an acceptable speed. My dads $500 HP computer is that way with 1gig of memory and an AMD 4200 X2 cpu. Even while running kinda bogged down it hasent given dad any trouble at all. My brother bought an $800 Dell computer from walmart a couple months ago. It has a Core 2 Duo E4500 cpu which is a little bit faster than dad's AMD 4200x2, and it has 2gigs of ram. It does run much better. And again, Vista hasent given him any trouble. My sister has it on her laptop, she did has some problems with trying to run the older software she has but about it.

Hell, go to newegg.com, Vista is getting better overall ratings than XP.

5. Vista is based on the Server 2003 code base
and SP1 is based on the Server 2008 code base. Those are pretty much just adapted server platforms which are a bit bloated in its core (that was before Microsoft added other CPU sucking features (UAC, DRM, Aero, etc...)).

This is partly why the basic hardware requirements are so high for it. My speed of my Ultimate laptop is pretty darn close to my under-RAMed old PIII ME Laptop which I upgraded to XPSP2. Bootup time and time to do tasks are pretty darn equal. I even thought my PIII laptop was slow right off the shelf back in 2001.

It is comparing a
1.5Ghz T5450 Centrino Duo
2GB RAM
160GB HD

To a:
700Mhz PIII
256MB RAM
10GB HD

3. Yes.
Took a long-@$$ time, but I've encountered no subsequent weirdness or misbehavior.

4. Yes and no and later
I installed it on my 64-bit partition. After rebooting, one app had problems and RAM usage went from 1.3GB to 2.1GB; cache data went from 2.5GB to 4.1GB. Ouch. (other people with Nero did not have problems and nobody else mentioned an increase in RAM or cache usage)

Removing SP1 did not free up that RAM.

I reformatted/reinstalled the lot, sans SP1. No re-activation hassles, and RAM & cache usage was back to normal.

I'm waiting a little longer before re-deploying SP1, but most have reported no problems, with only performance gains.

I've not reinstalled Nero or PowerDVD yet either. I'll probably do SP1 before those.

6. Not ready for my machines yet
My work computer refused it after 30 minutes, and reverted itself back to SP 0. I'm not bothering with my home machine, it has reboot issues.
