Poll question: People in the 15 items or less lane- too much stuff |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 11:52 AM by lizerdbits
I'm picking up 2 prescriptions (off sick today) then get some frozen food/junk food because that's what I eat when I'm sick. I get in the 15 Items or Less lane with only 1 other person and see why- she's got a cart full of stuff. Being sick and non confrontational in general I cursed her in my head. What should I have done?
Edit- my title got cut short.

She was the only person in line. If the quickie lane was empty, the cashier may have called her over. They did that to me once and I had 20-25 items. Slim chance it wasn't her "fault" so to speak.
OTOH, if she was just being a selfish piggie, since she'll still be loading her car while you're pulling out in yours, I'd suggest running her down a la Stephen King's Christine.

about being called over if other lanes were full. That's why I usually keep my mouth shut and not risk looking like an ass when I don't know the whole story. Until I post a poll like this. :P But she'll never see it.

24. I was going to say the same thing |
|
I have been called over to the express lane to..
If someone comes up behind me I apologize and tell them they called me here..
OTOH if the store is real crowded and I have a cart full and some one with 3-4 items comes up behind me I let them go first....

5. It's up to the cashier or store management to handle it. |
|
If the customer has a billion items and goes into the express line, it's usually left to the cashier to tell the customer that the line is reserved for fewer items.
Sometimes when the express line is empty they call over a customer from another line rather than having a cashier stand idle.
Of course, you can always ask the customer why s/he's in the express line if you're feeling confrontational.

It only took me a sec. to pay cash for my one item so I was right behind them walking out the store. They even had parked in the handicap space and had no handicap tag or sign. Just took the closest parking space to the door.
Just inconsiderate an asshole who thinks the world's only purpose is to serve them.

8. Sorry you aren’t feeling well. |
|
Sometimes, the “* items or fewer” cashier will call a person from a long line over when they have no one to check out.
Sometimes the person doesn’t realize it is the “10 items give or take a few line”.
Better to just stay silent.
Take care of yourself.

MMMMM. Stouffers mac and cheese, real comfort food. Have you seen “Mister Magorium’s Wonder Emporium”? That would be a good stay at home sick on the couch movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylzwOR4OXPU :)

over to the 12 items or less line, because there was no one in that line. So, maybe that was the issue, in which case it wasn't her fault. If that's not the case, then she's a jerk.

I have to believe when people act like buttholes that their karma will catch up to them someday. Maybe I'd try to convince myself she didn't realize what line she was in.. but then not many people deserve that kinda credit, she probably knew just what she was doing.

19. I once had some lady jump my shit for having 17 items in the 15 or less lane. |
|
Yep, the bitch actually counted the items in my cart. She launched into this whole spiel about how I was such a rude and inconsiderate person. So I agreed, and I shot right back with some loudly spoken, and rather rude and inconsiderate, comments of my own. I don't remember all of them, but I do recall that several involved comments about sticks up arses, and that the manager came over and told me to knock it off.
She moved to another line. Hopefully she bought herself a life while she was there, because she really needed to get one :eyes:
No, I don't take criticism well :)
OTOH, one of the greatest sights I ever saw was a lady who hit the 15 or less lane with a cart that was not just full, but overflowing. The cashier, not seeing her at first, didn't notice the cart until she already had the conveyor half loaded. He nicely asked her to put her things back into her cart and move into another line. She was apparently insulted and refused. The manager came over and offered to help load her cart and move her himself, but again she refused and demanded that they just ring her up. The manager threw her out of the store. He actually got APPLAUSE from the people in line when he walked back inside. I was a bit shocked, because I KNOW it took them longer to put that stuff back on the shelves than it would have taken to just ring her up. I'd never seen a store do that before.
She had WAAAAY more than 17 items though!

25. A few months ago in the same store |
|
someone had done the same thing and several people in line mentioned to the offender it was a low item lane and were also angry that the cashier wouldn't make them leave (I was in the neighboring lane). The cashier said they get complaints all the time when people do that but are told to not say anything to the customers. I guess it depends on the store or the chain.

Checkers will change those signs with people already in line, or sometimes call a customer over if there is no one else in line. She should be innocent until proven guilty. Let her live.

the express line cashier has called me over because she wasn't waiting on anyone else at the time. I wouldn't assume it was the customers fault.
