tried to post a story

up pops a "can't post cuz yer banned" screen

thought !yowza

went away

did something else for a while

came back

thought !WTF try postin again

and i wasn't banned

Totally freaked me out, 'cause I could not figure out what I had posted that was worthy of being banned.

3. Yes. There was a server crash 'round March/April 2002.

That was when I first signed up. The admins had to go back to a restore point that was prior to my signing up, so I had to sign up again.

8. No, and I've only had two posts deleted...

One where I told somebody to shut up (that one doubtless would be fine these days), and the other where I suggested that Condi Rice looked like Dr. Zira in Planet of the Apes. The mod said it could be seen as racist, which I thought was a bit over-the-top. It's okay to call George a "chimp," but we can't call Condi a kindly veterinarian? I don't get it.

I was banned for 2 years.

16. When I was doing Darfur posts I once spammed and was immediately kicked off.

I told them what had happened and they immediately let me back in. Don't post more than 5 times in a row on the same topic. I was just innocently decimating info on Darfur and bam!

17. No but my husband was and I consequently left for a while.

He was reinstated almost immediately and I took time off to just be me.

I never post controversially enough to get banned. :shrug:

I like it that DU gives "time out" to people, but I do with that those people would see the error of their ways and apologize if the bannishment (time out) was because they were hurtful and offensive.

Once was shortly after my signing up back in late '01, and I never noticed, only learning of it long afterwards when I noticed several notes of apology in my e-mail account. The second was not too long ago, an odd glitch compounded of the change from daylight savings time and the spam-filter's action: I was posting at the exact moment of the shift, and it read all the previous hour's posts as having occured within that second....

I completely lost my temper and called someone something vile. Didn't come back to DU for about 4 months because I assumed I was banned.
