1. $500 dollar bill.
He was a Treasury Secretary. I've never seen a $500 note. Why is there no "All about the Gallatins" song?

5. I missed that part--"current."
That was like, Civil War-ish. I had a History teacher go off on a tangent re: the Federal debt and war spending, so I recall him saying they put that one out with Gallatin, the irony being he was anti-debt...now I *do* want to know--current? It isn't the $2 because I think he was later than the Declaration signing--I think he had something to do with the Constitution, though?

2. Ok. I'm standing in line to pay for my slab of ribs at my fav bbq place last night...
and like many rib joints, there's all kinds of cheesy stuff pasted on the wall behind the cashier. One is a million dollar bill. This stupid person in front of me asks "That's not a real million dollar bill is it? Oh, I guess not." This world is becoming very scary.

9. I figured it was something like that
But I couldn't get verification. That was a terrific trivia question and here's an easier one for you: How many current US coins carry an image of Abraham Lincoln?

12. Seriously? That wasn't even a real guess- I was just being a wiseass.
(And hoping to draw some attention to my all-time FAVORITE
US Currency 'detail' in the process)

I'm fairly certain I've never heard the name 'Albert Gallatin'
in my life...
But that tiny image is one that struck me decades ago, when I
first noticed what an amazing artistic achievement that engraving was.

Those figures are TINY; no actual DETAIL is even possible...yet the artist
captured BODY LANGUAGE in every one.

People striding along, the couple strolling leisurely, the guy pausing
as though he just realized he might have forgotten something...

And then there's THAT GUY- His stance is a bit too wide, his arms are
a bit too straight, and his head is inclined a bit too far above eye level.
If that was an engraving of the sidewalk in Mayberry, that guy would be OTIS
at about 10:00am!

I always assumed that figure was just the engraver's way of having some fun-
a pre-digital-era "Easter Egg"; I've been calling him "the $10 Wino" for decades!

So, who was he? First Comptroller of the Treasury? Salmon P. Chase's "longtime companion"?
I'm gonna try to resist the urge to Google his name
until you reply to this post- since I ended your thread early
with my dumb luck, the least I can do is remain in suspense
until you fill me in, knowhutImean?

Sincerely,
Richard
