Why can't I sleep?
I took a muscle relaxant two hours ago. It should have made me drowsy but it didn't. My doctor even warned me not to take it unless I was on my way to bed. Apparently it's pretty powerful but I feel nothing, other than being a little tired because it 130 am.

1. Not sure,
a coincidence of sorts...last night, I took three sleeping aids, which usually put me down for at least 8hrs(and they take about 30 minutes to hit), and it took me 4 hours to fall asleep....

First time thats happened, and I haven't taken sleeping aids for at least half a year, they should've put me down fast...I blame my worries, for this! :D

3. My dear alarimer...
I suspect you can't sleep because you have a lot of stuff on your mind...

Anytime your mind is busy, that will interfere with your sleepiness...

Coming in here and talking to us should help, though...

At least, you're not tossing and turning in bed...

6. Yes a lot on my mind
As there usually is.

I gave up the tossing and turning for right now.

It's good I don't have to be anywhere tomorrow.

13. Think pineal gland, and melatonin.
.
.
.

I do not know your age, but it is not unusual for people over 45 like myself to have a lack of melatonin(a hormone created by the pineal gland in the brain to assist in the sleep process)as the pineal gland produces less of the needed melatonin for sleep.

I have never been a really good sleeper - and recent issues got me to the point where I started taking prescribed medication for depression - that was a mistake.

My problem was that I wasn't SLEEPING -

so I never got that relaxed brain thing that happens from deep sleep.

I weaned myself off of the depression meds, and take the melatonin occasionally

Now I sleep fine, and the nice thing about the melatonin supplement, it ain't addictive, and there is no need to wean oneself off of it

I can take it for a week, then not at all for days if I find my sleep cycle ok.

A good read on the pineal gland and melatonin is here
