Movies with great restaurant scenes
Edited on Sun Apr-06-08 12:02 PM by nuxvomica
A post on MrScorpio's movies-you-never-get-tired-of thread reminded me of this and as I got ready to post it, I noticed a MonkeyFunk thread about yesterday being Bette Davis's 100th birthday so this is my small tribute to her as well.

The movie is Davis's 1946 melodrama "Deception" and here's the setup:

Davis is a classical pianist whose husband disappeared during the war and was presumed dead. She becomes the lover/protege of a famous composer named Hollenius played by the incomparable Claude Rains. As the scene opens, Davis's husband Karel, a cellist, has miraculously returned to her and Hollenius has set him up with a major concert performance of one of his own compositions. But before a nervous Karel's make-or-break debut, Hollenius decides they should order a "frugal" little dinner.

This is one of my favorite movie restaurant scenes of all time. What's yours?

edit: Ms. Davis's birthday was yesterday.

61. Tracy and Hepburn at the drive-in in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"
That's one of my all-time favorite movies anyway, and that scene is just classic.
For those of you who are not familiar:
The couple's daughter has announced her engagement to a black man (Sidney Poitier)and his parent are coming to dinner to meet her parents and they've gone for a drive and are at the drive in (roller-skating waitresses, car-window-trays, etc.) and after they have coffee and ice cream, they're backing out and Tracy, the driver, backs into a young black guy's hotrod..."Man, look at my CAR, man!"
"All right, all right, how much will it cost to fix it?"
"Man, thirty or forty DOLLARS, Man!"

And the look on both Tracy's and Hepburn's faces as they're heading home after this incident...just priceless. Great movie. Great scene.
