The good news: that odd, intermittent ticking noise was not another new roof leak
The bad news: a chicken had flown into the dog pen and Guinness had chased her around and dragged her to his den on the stair landing. The ticking noise was from her claws tapping the floor as she was dying.

Damn dog!

Life in the country can have its drawbacks!

1. once had a ticking/rustling noise in the chimney
I thought maybe a bird or bat had gotten in there

Turned out to be a leak in bathroom pipes - cost $3000 to repair...

count yourself lucky!

2. Well, I did say it was good news that it wasn't a leak!

Our flat roof has been giving us fits this last winter. Still, it was one of my pretty Silver Spangled Hamburgs that the dog nailed!

3. Update: to make up for his lapse in judgment, Guinness is joining Jack in
barking at the bad deer. Unfortunately, while Jack is content to go outside and bark at the deer, Guinness sits next to me and barks at them to ensure that I know he's on the job!

4. So instead of a leak,
it was a beak?

(I know you said it was the claws but that didn't rhyme. Sorry about the chicken. Our dog ate all six of ours two days after we got them.)

:hi:
