I'm on the waiting list for lung transplantation
I know I rarely post here and I doubt I'm familiar with anyone, but for a few years I've been so weak, I've been unable to go out as merely walking from room to room in our house is enough to exhaust me. My family are great but they're not with me now, so I feel very lonely. I'm desperate to exchange messages with any of my fellow human beings, to be honest. First there was agoraphobia as a teen, and after I recovered from that, not long afterwards, pulmonary hypertension set in, hence why I need a double lung transplant, I believe.

8. Around a month or so
I've been told I'm more likely than others as I'm young, thus will be granted priority. Also I'm tall which will also count in my favour. Why is that? I'm aware the organ will have to match mine in size and blood type. I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know what my blood type is. But all in all, I have reason to hope.

Also, if I can survive the initial few weeks, I'll join fellow organ recipients in an aerobics class in order to build up the strength we'll lose in intensive care. I can meet people in that way, I was informed that people who find themselves in this boat grow to know each other and throw parties, "we survived the year, let's celebrate".

Thanks for the kind words.

14. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. DU is the place to do so...
DU is more compassionate for those of us going through hard times, more than anyplace I've ever known. Take great care, my friend, and wishing you a successful, and speedy, recovery. I'm an asthmatic, myself, and have had three surgeries, for other reasons, but nothing compares to what you're facing. Always remember that DU will be thinking of you and looking forward to your return...

15. Thanks again
I find it easier to focus on the short-term. Looking at the big picture, I'm not a strong person so it can easily overwhelm me. Easier to just take it day by day, easier to just focus on the book I'm reading at the present moment, see?

I'm on a voyage of French literature. I'm almost done with "The Count of Monte Cristo", then I'll set my sights on "Les Miserables". I won't say anything but to give my strongest recommendation for the former. No spoilers. :D

17. I've read "Les Miserables," my friend, ages ago, and it's one of my favorites of all time...
Look forward to seeing the classic movie. It's a keeper... :D

When I had my surgeries, one major, though not as complicated as yours, I think, I felt that the thing that kept me going was retaining a sense of humor. I was scared witless, but I still made jokes about things, with both the hospital staff and my friends. It helped keep me sane, and I recommend that, if you can manage it. Godspeed, my friend. I'll be thinking of you and sending you my best positive karma. I'm not very brave, either, would never have made it without Xanax, just facing the damn thing. But if I can make it, you can. And I'm still here, and well, and you will be too, before very long...:hi:

21. I read "The Count of Monte Cristo" when I was a kid
I had heard just brief cultural references about it and decided I had to get it out of the library and see what it was all about. What a great story! That led me to Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," another rousing adventure. Great narrative journeys that more people would enjoy if they didn't think of them as hoary old classics.

24. Yes
From my experiences with the classics, the majority have been heavy going - exceptionally well written indeed, but at times I found myself swimming against a strong tide of text. Monte Cristo, however, was comparatively easy to rip through, and yet I wouldn't describe it as a light read! Some passages are truly meaningful and insightful.

Rhiannon, your words are so warm that they haven't failed to make me feel better. As indeed goes for the rest of you. Thank you.

27. Well
I feel that it's only in recent years that I've delved into the world of meaningful literature - prior to that there was, er, Goosebumps and Animorphs. :D One thing that does interest me is books which go into great detail as to how the mind of the leading character works. "The Trial" by Franz Kafka is an excellent example.

28. May I suggest
"A Great Improvisation" by Stacy Schiff. Its about Benjamin Franklin's time in France in the late 1770's and his chicanery and machinations to get French support for our revolution. He is definitely the lead character and it certainly delves into his minds workings. Interesting character and, in this case, truth better then fiction.

34. Alrighty then
One of my uppermost desires is to meet people. I left high school not long after joining and in the ensuing years, developed agoraphobia. I feel I've overcome that, alas only a few months after I started venturing outdoors on a regular basis, this pulmonary hypertension reared its unpleasant face. For those who are in the dark, and I wouldn't blame you as it's quite a rare condition I've been told... well, this is embarrassing, as it's been explained to me, at length, a number of times by various doctors and nurses. The long and short of it is that my blood vessels are especially narrow, thus blood and oxygen cannot distribute itself as freely as would be the case in a healthy person. As such, I tire easily - oxygen concentrators have been set up in our house, I'm on six litres of pure oxygen, 24 hours a day. The concentrators gather oxygen from the surrounding air, pumping it through a long tube which can reach to all areas of our house. They don't know why this is afflicting me so.

So yeah, I'm desperate to meet people - it's been longer than a decade since I've been in an environment where I can socialise with people of my own age, longer than a decade since I could develop significant relationships.

My real name is Jeff, I'm a 22 year old male who has resided south of Melbourne all my life.

I have many interests which constantly fluctuate. It's frustrating for me at times, because it's not uncommon for me to say to myself, "I was so interested in whatever, and now that passion has disappeared as suddenly as it appeared". At the moment, my passions lie with French literature and Siberian Huskies. I found it curious to find a thread today focusing in part on this breed. And as for pets, despite what I just said, we are a cat family by and large. "We" - me, my parents and my brother.

My favourite writer is Haruki Murakami. I agree with those who say his work is complex yet easily accessable. My favourite works by this man would be "Kafka on the Shore," "The Wind-up Bird Chronicle" and "Norwegian Wood". Also I found enjoyable his collection of short stories as can be found in "Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman". I think that's it's name? Embarrassing. Well, I'm quite sure.

As some of you may of noticed, I am sensitive as to how I'm perceived by others. I've been told that since agoraphobia, I've most on to GAD . To give one example, once I ended up in tears as I missed a commercial my brother wished me to see. It would be repeated, right. He didn't appear upset, right. Alas I'm irrational to the core and the thought whirled around inside my head, terrorizing, "you've let him down! What is he thinking about you?!"

About Murakami. In general I'm passionate about his homeland. My favourite writer is Japanese, my favourite food is Japanese , some of my favourite films and directors are Japanese <"Kikujiro", "Tony Takitani", Takeshi Kitano>, I enjoy Japanese music, the language sounds pleasant enough to my ears... I'd dearly love to travel there someday.

Another country I love is Iceland. Iceland is a country with the most mind blowing landscape, at least that I've encountered. It's truly from another planet . Also, the population is so small, only around 300,000, and yet they've done so much - one of the great writers of the 20th century was Icelandic - Halldor Laxness. Some of my favourite artists are Icelandic - Sigur Ros and mum. I'm forgetting the accents, forgive me. A country which punches above their weight.

43. It is a problem
When I read posts from people responding to me, I do imagine their tone of voice to be a certain way, invariably negative.

I haven't had one of my patented mental breakdowns for some time, though. I'll try not to let my irrational head get the better of me. We'll see.

We have a library near to our residence. Today I want to make my way down there and choose a book. Looking forward to that.
