Facebook is pretty cool, although I liked it a LOT better before the stupid stalker news feed. x( I have mixed feelings about "applications," though - some of them (i.e., the ones I have) are cool, whereas some of them just seem kind of stupid. :shrug: To each his own, though. :hi:

1) Yes you can be. Geekiness in not a requirement for lounge lizardness although there are alot of sci-fi geeks here (including me).

3. hidden internet is a term

...it's really a simple little thing, but it's the sort of term or jargon that drives me crazy. actually, it's not even a bad one (term/jargon.)

I'm not gonna say what it is until later, tho, to give others a chance to answer.

I think they're all full of them, but I'm in a field that drives me crazy with jargon. I hate hate hate it. Some of it is useful, but I think too much of it is a way to make things seem more important or difficult than they actually are.

so... hidden internet, web2, internet 2, meta-EVERYTHING... and lots of others.

maybe we should have a list of "make you want to scream" jargon. I know the military is full of it too.

I have both Facebook and MySpace. I like them both, although I am liking facebook much better now.I use them for both personal and business.

Personal life I guess. Likes: not much, but fun on extremely rare occasions and good for tracking music you like. Dislikes: people who message you and you don't feel like talking or it's just stupid spam.

I've been a part of the lounge for five years, a recovering lizard for about 2 & 1/2 of them. It's ok, but doesn't have as much appeal to me as it once did.

4.) Yes. As a former university computing employee it meant a huge pain in my ass which struck me as pointless.

5.) I'm a synesthete, the Lounge is cerulean blue. Please do not argue this point...you are, by default, wrong as I cannot divide the Lounge from cerulean blue.

6.) I loathe them. I am active only on one. I use it to date mostly, as I cannot date 99% of the people I physically come in contact with during the typical day. I'd rather not be on there. I guess in some sense I do use it to "get a life".:P

7.)Since I was invited to this corner of the internet after getting stomped in GD one day for being a hawk. (I am a hawk, I make no qualms about it. I believe that, under certain conditions, military action is not only the best course but the only acceptable course.) Nobody told me I needed vaccines to come here and by the time I realized I needed them I was already infected.

as far as no. 4 - yeeeessss!!! I am not a computing employee, but I feel your pain. actually, I know cases where it's not so useless. a friend of mine works with..... music in Tanzania and she and others have been making tons of ethnographic work available that wasn't there before... so I see it has its uses, but people sometimes seem like they have to find ways to make everything seem more "special" than it really is. same with web2. it's the web. a long time aspect, just with better graphical interfaces.

as far as the 6- I was just teasing, honestly. I don't even try to meet people and have never done any sort of thing like that. I'm too shy... honest. hard to believe if you've heard me mouth off here... but irl, or if you're meeting someone for the purpose of going out.. I'd be too freaked out by the idea, even. at least you have some courage.

if anyone really cares to know what the "hidden internet" is - it is all the sites that are available only via subscription by an institution (usually) - stuff like Lexis-Nexis (tho that one is pretty much available) or tons of academic journals or art institution or film or museum archives.

it's too expensive for a day-to-day user of the internet to pay for access to these things and unless someone seeks out an institution that has subscriptions, there is all sorts of info available online that is hidden.

internet2 is a way of making information available via a bunch of diff. academic outlets.

...real question for you- do you really think vaccines may have played a role? There have been studies recently that questioned the possible role of pcbs in ground water.. say a person has two recessive genes for "aspergers with pcbs contaminants." I don't think my son's asperger's was caused by his vaccines because, from the time he was born, he was extremely sensitive to stimuli, etc. I didn't really know this till I had my second child and he was so easy in comparison, as far as sleeping, crying, etc.

when I got preggers, however, *I* had had a german measles vaccine a month or so before. I wasn't trying to get pregnant when I did... I was using birth control, even (with both my kids!) so I just told myself they wanted to be born.

But I don't really like that whole "cure" someone pov with aspergers. I assume if it has survived as a trait over god knows how long, it must have a value, even if we, in our modern world, don't always recognize it. I told my son that maybe ppl with aspergers, with his excellent memory, were the troubadours who memorized long, long passages of singing that also conveyed news before people used the written word.

We haven't been a writing culture for that long, in the whole big scheme of human-ness.
