Anyone else notice Dave Lettermen really going off on Bush?
I've always said Dave is "One of Us",but he still tells Clinton jokes & pokes fun at Dems the same as Repubs. However, it seems like he's REALLY going after Shrub lately.Think Dave is just pissed off?

3. Warren Zevon friend
Dave was a fanatic WZ fan, even having him on the show one last time.

I noticed a distinct difference in his humor with dems v repubs. If he does a Dem joke, it's more of a "we're laughing with you" kind of a joke, but if it's * joke or repub joke, it quite pointedly goes for the jugular.

6. I think Dave has disliked Dubya ever since 2000,
when Dubya was on the show via satellite and cracked some tasteless jokes. It was shortly after Dave had returned from his quadruple bypass, and Bush said, "It's about time you had the heart to invite me." Then, when Letterman asked about Bush's "uniter, not a divider" monikker, Bush cracked some nonsense joke like this:

"That means, when we sew up your chest cavity, we use thread instead of ripping it open."

If I recall correctly, the audience booed. I would imagine Letterman was pissed off about that.

7. I doubt it has anything to do with his personal beliefs.
Letterman, like all talk show hosts/comedians has to play to that which will evoke mirth in his audience.

Dave's show is taped before a live audience in downtown New York, -his audience is liberal.

A laugh track in that industry is the kiss of death.

10. Just because he tapes in NYC doesn't mean his audience is from NYC.
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 02:56 PM by elperromagico
He has audience members from all over the country and the world.

Leno tapes in "liberal" LA (or Burbank, anyway)--- but the audience doesn't seem to mind when Jay gives Arnold Schwollenpecker head every night or that he has Dennis Miller on about as often as Carson used to have Charles Nelson Reilly on.

I, for one, do detect a certain degree of malice in Dave's Bush jokes which I didn't detect in his Clinton jokes. Could be wrong, of course.

Dave's show several times & really seem to love him!I think that helps, plus didn't Hilary recently read the top ten list?I think them both being in NY doesn't hurt either!

16. Burbank
is on the Glendale/Beverly Hills/Thousand Oaks/Simi Valley side of Los Angeles. Notsomuch with the liberal. And no, neither of their audiences are comprised entirely of locals or entirely of visitors, but rather of a fair smattering of both.

14. Maria Pope leaned over Dave's desk during a break
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 03:37 PM by SoCalDem
and she had on one of those pashmina shawls (he keeos the studio freezing) and Bush picked up the end of her shawl and nonchalantly cleaned his glasses on it..

Dave has shown the tape lots of times.. and probably will again during the campaign.

12. Dave's a really intelligent guy
and he sees the Pugs for what they are....I imagine it would be hard for him to NOT slam The Smirk considering that the Bozo-In-Chief consistently offers up so many opportunities to do so!

15. Yeah I notices it aswell
Letterman must dislike Bush..

Letterman is a fair man and he makes fun of the democrats aswell but he is ALOT more vicious about Bush.

I would even dare to say that Lettermans anti-Bush stance is bigger then Lenos Pro-Bush stance.
