A mouse, including cable, costs about four bucks |
|
Why does a USB extension cable cost $13.99?

1. Because they've got you by the balls. |
|
It's not like you can splice your own USB cables. OTOH, you have other options qua buying a mouse. (wireless, PS/2)

And you're right about the other options.
But it's silly that a standard CPU-in-cabinet computer desk places the keyboard shelf at the very limit of a standard USB mouse's cable.

4. Yeah, I bought a used camera at a pawn shop |
|
and it didn't have the cable. I went online to look for it... the prices I found (other than going on eBay and buying one from Hong Kong) were between twenty and FIFTY dollars.
That's right. Fifty dollars. For a USB cable.
Screw that noise. I'll just go without.

6. Yikes! You're better off buying a $9 card-reader |
|
I bought a printer recently that, after rebate, was about $25 bucks. The cable for connecting it to my PC was $25.99.
Not to mention ink cartridges, which are famously expensive.
It's a gosh dang racket, I tells ya!

7. That's exactly what I did. |
|
Got two SD cards to switch out if I need to, and a USB card reader. I usually keep the bigger of the two cards (2 gigs) in the reader and keep it with me to use as a thumb drive, and I keep the smaller memory card (512 megs) in the camera.
