And you want to sound impressive?

I know, I know: "I never lie about it. I really do like <<insert film name here>>>."

Bully for you. Name that film here, and we'll treat it the same.

1. Casablanca
I can't watch it. I know that everybody else ripped it off and not vice-versa, but it's one long cliche to a modern viewer.

2. For me, it's anything by Kurosawa other than "The Seven Samurai"
Outside of film-studies majors, I don't know anyone in real life who's seen anything else of his aside from Ran.

Yes, he's a great director. The greatest. The greatest ever. Ever!

Ever!

4. This Political Theory B.A. loves Kurosawa
His films are all much better if you're aware that:

He was obsessed with cowboy movies.
He was virulently anti-American and blamed the US for the destruction of Japanese culture, which he was dedicated to the restoration of.
He couldn't watch his movies in the theater because he'd find things he wanted to change and dwell on them, sending himself into a depression.

5. Well, I don't know you

Of course, I was engaging in hyperbole for the sake of the thread...

6. I am blatantly
honest about this sort of stuff.

I don't care how wrong it seems to not like something that everyone else goes goof-ball over. In fact, I enjoy the looks of horror when I admit not liking most of Hitchcock's movies. I thought that some were so bad that it was painful for me to sit through. I like to top it off by calling him Hitchcrock. That pretty much ensures that I will be asked to leave or the topic changes right away. I did like North by Northwest, Strangers on a Train and Rear Window. I wanted to slap Tippy Hedren with a seagull though ---
