Next time you're in Venice...

It pays to be American at Harry's Bar, Venice
By Sarah Marcus and agencies
09/04/2008

American holidaymakers feeling the pinch of the weak dollar will be cheered to hear that Venice’s famous Harry’s Bar is offering them a special discount, according to Reuters.

The legendary bar is used to attracting customers despite its high prices, but its decision to offer Americans experiencing subprime woes a discount of 20 per cent on all items on the menu points to the fact that the effects of the financial crisis are being felt in Italy and elsewhere in Europe.

----------

Harry's Bar is top of any visitor's "must-do" list in Venice, as famous an attraction as gondolas and St Mark's Square.

It was opened by the Cipriani family and it is said that nobody makes a bellini ( a mix of prosecco and peach juice) quite as well as it is made here, where it was invented.
