1. At the moment...
I am boycotting the bus.

I am sick of the crazy people on them and enjoy the peace of my car.

37. Which bus do you take?
If it's the 21, I agree. I take the 6 which is much more sane.

46. The 21 is what made me stop riding the bus.
It took me 2 freakin hours to get from the uptown station to downtown St Paul, and then 2 hours AGAIN to get back...

that is 4 hours in the close company of crazies, drunks, obnoxious loud cell phone conversations, smelly people, etc...

I decided then, I had enough.

I have rode a variety of the bus lines here in town, and I have not liked any of them.

in my car, I can ride in peace, listen to NPR quietly, not have to smell anyone, or talk to anyone, or listen to anyone elses cell conversations.

I also have a nice car to sit in...

lol

50. Yep, the 21 is nasty
but the 6 isn't so bad, usually. There are the occasional crazies and drunks, but for the most part it's business types going to work downtown.

2. For the most part no...but I live four miles from work
It would be a huge timewaster to take the bus on a regular basis. However, I do try to use it when possible...for example for my upcoming trip, I made sure I got a flight out of DCA so I can take the subway to the airport...:)

Well, yeah, but people got over their anxiety and did what's right.

Seriously, traffic just takes getting used to. Start out biking on roads you're comfortable with and work your way up to more challenging roads.

It would take 40-45 minutes via bus versus 10 minutes in the car. That way I can also go home for lunch.

6. To paraphrase an old Houston Metro slogan:
"You can't get there from here."

Houston doesn't understand mass-transit planning. And if a good idea for it comes along, they will study it for a decade or two, at least until someone else implements it so they don't have to do something "unproven".

And next year, work is only a mile away. Plus, I locked in gas at $2.15/gal for a few more years, so filling my gas tank is not a concern for me. I'm far more affected by the rise in prices of groceries, heating, supplies.

18. Nope--we live in a rural area
No mass transit here, so when I have to go into "the city" I have no choice but to drive.

But I use my bike (whenever weather allows) to run errands locally (post office, etc.).

19. If I could, I would!
Unfortunately I have the classic disconnect between my place of employment and my residence (I can't afford to live near where I work as a single person).

I do telecommute at least two days a week, and would do more if I didn't get stir-crazy.

you can telecommute. I have the same problem--I can't afford to live where I work. And the mass transit system is designed only to get people in and out of Chicago, not from suburb to suburb.

22. It takes two hours to get to and from my school by bus
and maybe 20 minutes in my car. So that would eat four hours of my day, assuming the bus ran late enough to get me home, which it doesn't.

So until there bus system here is faster, more convenient, and less smelly, I don't plan on using it. I do ride my bike or walk on errands within my neighborhood, and I live where I do because most things aren't very far away, so I rarely use my car lately except for school, shopping that can't be done near home, and the occasional trip out of town.

23. I work from home, so don't drive all that much.
However, when we go to Mariner's games, we take the bus to and from the ballpark. We have to drive 3 miles to the Park and Ride, but it's worth it. The ballpark is only 7 miles away, but by taking the bus, we avoid having to drive around looking for parking, idling at stoplights, etc. Plus, it's fun being on a bus with lots of other baseball fans.

24. Yes.
I drive my car to the metro station a few miles from my apartment and then take the subway into downtown and a shuttle to my office.

Except today, because someone was filming something (only in LA!) in the Metro parking lot and there was absolutely nowhere to park. So I drove. I also drive one day a week because I work the late shift and there's no way I'm taking the subway in downtown LA late at night. Not gonna happen.

Anchorage's mass transit kind of sucks, especially when there's a foot of snow on the ground, as now. Since I work at home and my husband's retired, and we only drive out maybe once or twice a week, if that, I don't feel too guilty.

I do drive a very gas efficient (35-38 MPG) car though!

There are bike lanes, sidewalks and buses in my city but I work in a conservative, bedroom community in a neighboring county. They'll never have mass transit because minorities might come out to their county and they surely can't have that happen.

I live three miles from where I work, and can do most of my shopping along the way; combine with that the fact that my impoverished city can't subsidize the bus program as well as could be hoped, and my gas costs are almost at parity with the price of a monthly pass (plus, the flexibility in scheduling-to say nothing of protection from @#%*#&$@% unpredictable Colorado weather-give the car the edge).
